Jason lasted this long on the strength of Daydream/Hallelujah/Somewhere Over the Rainbow/Fragile. Most of his other songs were solidly "middle of the pack" and it was easy for him to outlast people like Ramielle and Kristi Lee Cook. And, if you're not a fan of the "folk rock" sound, there is nothing he could do that you would like. He's the first to admit he's now a power-singer/big voice guy. That is exactly why I've enjoyed him this year - such a change from the usual Idol contestants. That said...
Cookie - the Duran Duran song did nothing for me. I’m not a fan of the song, but Cook can often give me chills singing a song I don’t care for. That one just didn’t work for him. The Who song was much better, except for that low part near the start of the song where it sounded like it went too low for Cook’s voice. I'm liking the facial hair.
Archie - I can’t stand him, but I have to say “Stand By Me” was the first time I enjoyed one of his performances. That was really good. The Elvis song was just more of the same Archie. I am completely fed up with the fact that he will not do an uptempo song if his life depended on it. Reminds me of Ruben Studdard because he did the same thing.
Syesha - Never guessed her to stay this long but she’s really turned it up the last few weeks. Seems Broadway week made her realize she can play it up and put some moves on that she was too scared to do earlier. Doesn’t hurt her to be labelled “Broadway” as I think that’s where she wants to be. I didn’t care for the dance moves on the Tina Turner thing - it’s not Dancing w/ the Stars. Change is Gonna Come was nice - I thought she looked lovely. I still like Taylor’s take on that song better.
Jason - my Jason.

All I wanted for him and Brooke was to make top 6 & they both surpassed my hopes. The Marley tune - I don’t care for the song, and I don’t care for Bob Marley, so there was no way it was going to win me over. But, I do agree with Paula that Jason was playing more to the audience for once. It seemed he was singing louder/stronger and I thought his voice was in good form. Watching it a 2nd time, it wasn't a train wreck. It was just sort of karaoke of Marley. I got the impression he thought he did really well and maybe expected praise for going outside the box. But, alas, they just wanted to throw him under the bus. The Dylan tune should have been a natural for him. He looked great - he sounded fantastic. When he first started I thought “Yes!” His voice was stronger again, fuller. And then he caught the McPheever and forgot a bunch of words. I also wondered if he was taking a dive to just get out now. I thought he would stay w/ getting lots of Brooke’s votes, but I think many fans who would have voted just couldn’t bring themselves to do it last night….
On the various idol boards, some think he lost confidence after the critique of his first song, and messed up the second (he did it perfectly in dress rehearsal). Others think he threw it on purpose. Some are saying he was mouthing the words "Don't Vote" after his first song. I'd have to look back on my DVR to check that out. Anyway - he's dead last in DialIdol. I really didn't want a david v david finale as it was so predictable. Jason will make a ton of money on the tour, placing 4th, and there are tons of people ready to buy a CD of his over either of the Davids, so I think he'll do fine in the long run. It's not like he had a prayer to win it anyway.
