I try to view them as separate entities. This way I am not disappointed in the movies. Using Harry Potter as an example, I love both the movies and the books because the movies are made really well (the first two, not so well, but I love them just the same). Actually, now that I think of it, I have never not liked a movie after I've read the book. It's like a different interpretation of a song.
