I just rented The Incredibles for my son, based on so many good reviews I've read that said it was cute. I knew it was PG, but a lot of the reviews said it was because of the action/violence. Ice Age is PG, but cute. Violence in The Incredibles is true. It had a few cute things in it, but only older kids and adults would get it. My son actually asked me a few times what was happening - flew over his head. My biggest disappointment was, that on top of the violence, and showing how NOT to act (our "hero" beats up his rude boss and slams him through a wall, literally throws a kid out of his car, gets mad and throws things around), they show a guy committing SUICIDE by jumping from a building. He gets saved by Mr. Incredible. I had to tell my son the guy fell from the building, but the word is actually used later. I really thought it would be cute for the kids, as a few of the movies are, as long as we're there with them. Not this one. Not recommended for kids under 10-12. What gets me is that they do the McDonalds Happy Meals tie ins, which lead us to believe that the movie is for the Happy Meal consumer, kids.

Both my boys have watched it and i really didn't have an issue with it. They never asked about the suicide scene and we explained to them that it was a bad choice to hit the boss and he got in trouble because of it.
Sorry you didn't care for it.

My DDs loved the movie. I have always talked to them about the difference between real or pretend and a cartoon is pretend. We also are big into good choices and bad choices. I gotta say when my 3 yr old dd watched the movie for the 1st time she said Mr. Incredile made a bad choice and he needed to go into time out until he was sorry and could give the other guy a hug. I'm also sorry you didn't like the movie but I look at everything as a great opportunity to talk to my kids. I do have to agree it was full of violence but no more violent then say the road runner.

Well, actually Roadrunner is pretty violent - he couldn't see them when he was younger. I didn't even mention how the movie started, early on, with a gunfight between cops and bad guys. It was just a bit much. I actually read a review last night that mirrored this. Wish I'd seen that one before!! Glad it was a rental and not a purchase. We're going to see Cars today!!!

We went and we did! DD hated it at first - cried due to the noise. Nursed her to nap in the dark theater. When she woke up, she had fun. Cute movie!
As usual, Pixar had double entendres that were great for the adults but flew right over the kids' heads.

DH and I LOVED "The Incredibles," but our children have yet to see it. We're very careful about what they watch, and it wasn't even until just recently that we let them watch "Finding Nemo" basically unedited (ie fast-forwarding through any scary parts). I know a lot of kids even younger than mine that have watched "The Incredibles" and loved it, but I'm with you in that it's more than I want my kids watching right now (at 4-1/2 & 2-1/2). With that said, the animation was phenomenal, the banter between the characters was terrific, and we really loved all the James Bond references (dh is a huge Bond fan)! We also saw "Cars," and thought it was really cute. I've heard people complain that it moves too slowly, and the movie is too long, but dh and I thought it was really cute, and we'll let our girls see it when it's out on DVD. (Dh and I have seen ALL the Pixar movies...he's an animator himself - mostly manufacturing-type stuf, so he's a big computer geek about these movies.) :D

Yes, I do think the Incredibles is cute for adults. As mentioned, a lot of it flew over my son's head, but we get it - especially those of us with middle age spread who can no longer fit into our superhero suits. We imagine meeting up with our friends the way he did with Edna and hearing them saying (in their minds) what she did, "My God, you've gotten fat." I could see where Cars could be called slow, but I liked it because I think those lulls and buildups are better for the kids' minds. My six year old loved it. It's now his favorite movie. That's saying a lot for a guy who never got into cars at all. Can't wait till the DVD comes out. Now if only I can get my HD TV repaired. $500 AGHH! bucks - the picture buckles and we have three ghosts on it.
Now I want to see The Devil Wears Prada and The DaVinci Code. At least the books were good, even if the movies didn't get raves. DS' therapist thinks we should take him to see The Ant Bully. I think I'll leave baby girl home for that one.
As usual, the closing credits were adorable in Cars. It's so nice to have an intelligent kids movie without violence, bad language and smut. I wish the powers that be at Disney would notice how much more money these type of movies make. Yes, leave out the scary parts and losing parent parts like finding Nemo has. I realize it was a necessary premise, but intelligent minds can come up with better alternatives. Not make the sad parts so sad, maybe. Every kid fears losing their parent after they get what this part means. I was like that with Cinderella, and I did end up with a stepmother!
