My nephew is based in Afganisan, and has been there for almost 18 months, give or take some. Anyway, him and his buddies made a video to the song Cookie Jar. I have it on my facebook profile and you are welcome to check it out. I don't know how to link it. But my family and friends have decided to send all the soldiers at his base cookies in honor of the service and that even though they are in the middle of a war they still have time to ease the stress with young men's antics. If you all could help make this happen it would be great. Send your cookies to any soldier, TF Titan FOB Altimur, APO AE 09364

So next Sat it's on to state again for us. They get to play in the Colts stadium. :Thumb Up:

We BARELY beat the team they're playing next Sat earlier in the season, and DH thinks they're really a better team than us. So we'll see. Of course you DO remember that DS just gets to stand on the sideline and look pretty don't you? But we're still pumped.

Anyone have a Miche Purse?

I am just LOVING the idea of the Miche purse. You can switch out the shells and have a new purse everyday! :) I love the idea. I saw it at Hallmark today and was thrilled to be able to actually pick it up and try switching out the shells, etc. The only thing I really wondered about though is if it's comfortable at all. It has a short handle, but I still want to wear it on my shoulder. I know you can get longer handles, but I actually like the shorter handles of my current purse, but it's a little more squishy than the Miche and fits under my arm better... KWIM?

Anyway, does anyone have one? What do you think of it? Do you wear it on your shoulder with the shorter straps? Does it work that way???

TIA!!

Car seats - when do you move them up?

So I know that you can move a baby from an infant carseat to a convertable seat when they're 1 year AND 20 pounds, but when can they move up to the booster seat?

A couple of years ago I was told they could move up at 4 I think? So my oldest son knew that when he turned 4 he'd get to move up. Right after we switched him to a booster seat I heard they were changing the guidelines and that they wanted you to keep the kids in the convertable seat longer. We'd already switched him, so we let him stay in the booster seat.

My middle son turned 4 a few months ago and we haven't switched him over yet, and I'm not sure when we should. Occasionally when he rides in DH's car we let him ride in the booster seat. We figure his older brother got to at this age so it should be pretty safe, but when can we switch him out in my car?

Anyone know the guidelines on this? When do you switch them?

TIA!!

Anyone here live or lived in Alaska? We found out yesterday that we are getting orders for Eielson Afb near Fairbanks! I am soooo excited about these orders. We are not sure when we will be moving but we know it should be between Sept and Dec next year. I guess I am looking for tips or suggestions on anything for this move or even just living in Alaska. We have never been anywhere that is sooo very cold. We are currently in Las Vegas so it will be a major shock temp wise for all of us. The coldest place we have lived is Germany which wasn’t that cold.:Thumb Up:

I went to a "tweet up" party with a few friends of mine and one of the door prizes there was a free cut and color at the salon that was hosting the tweet up. Guess who won it? ME!! So yesterday my friend and I went and had a "girl" day. Followed by lunch. As I was standing in line to order, my friend ordered what I wanted and paid for it! :Thumb Up: Yay! Free cut, free color, and free lunch!

So then I get home and it's customary around here to make pizza on Thursday. We've always done this. Well I had a PapaJohns coupon in my hand and thought "why bother making it.....let's go pick it up". So we did.

Free cut. Free color. Free lunch. Free dinner....and best yet: HUBBY CAME HOME too! :o

My sister is weird about Thanksgiving. LOL

My parents moved out of state...gosh, hmmm...in 2003? Anyhow, before that, we always did the big family Thankgiving dinner for my side of the family. My Mom always liked to have a 'surprise guest' where she'd randomly invite someone - one time it was the police officer that worked security at a little grocery store she frequented, another time it was one of the librarians from our local library etc It was always just such a fun time.

Then my parents moved out of state to take care of my grandmother. And everything changed.

My younger sister and I collaborate on Thanksgiving. She's weird about it though. For many years after my parents moved she didn't even want to have/do Thanksgiving. Said it was a 'waste of time'. Made me kinda sad because I have such great memories of my Thanksgiving at my parents home.

I had/have my inlaws. My sister doesn't really get along with her inlaws and they don't do any holiday celebrating with them at all. My MIL would invite her and her family to our celebration, which I thought was nice. My sister however viewed it as that my MIL wanted me and dh and thought that my sister could 'steal us' for the holiday. LOL So she was only inviting them so that my sister couldn't have a meal. Which was completely untrue.

Okay...so the past few years. She has been hosting. She does Thanksgiving and I do Christmas. It has worked out well. Dh/kids and I go to my MIL's for a 1PM meal and then we go straight from there to my sister's house for a 6PM meal. Sounds nutty, but it works. :)

So we talked about Thanksgiving a few weeks ago - divided up the menu etc Then yesterday she called me and was a little irritated with me, saying "well are you guys coming or not, I really don't care either way". Um...didn't we already talk about this? So she said she didn't remember and I asked her why she was mad, and she said she wasn't. It's just weird! We have a weird conversation like this EVERY YEAR! LMAO!

I've never waited tables before and maybe someone here with experience can speak from experience why an 18% tip on large parties is required. I do know, back when we worked with the group home of boys, that we use to do a Sunday morning buffet with the kids. Our party could be up to 15 people but it was a buffet and we all served ourselves. DH always left a bit of a tip but, though we didn't try fighting with the restaurant about the matter, we stopped going after they started billing us a 15% for our large party.

Just seems like a poor decision on the restaurant's part.

Today started out with a nice high. We found a new washer and dryer on sale and dh went out this morning at 6am to get them. Our washer is on it's last leg and we have been looking for a couple months.

Then later in the afternoon I took youngest to eye appt. Her oil glands are backed up. They get backed up often and we are supposed to be making sure she gets fish oil (I give her the gummy ones) and that we give her hot compress on her eyes. Well , it wasn't enough so now she has to have eye drops 4x a day, hot compress 2X a day, med on her eyelids at bedtime, and continue with the fish oil. Her cornea is showing signs of changes due to inflamation. She has to go back in 2 weeks. This could permanantly damage her cornea.
The problem for me is dh NEVER helps and often says lets just forget it tonight. So it's mean mom having to do it all. Which I am okay with as a mom, my daughters health is foremost and if I have to be "mean" I'm okay with that. Problem is I never get a break. So, if I'm not home she misses the drops and he won't make her eat the gummy's. He doesn't want to bother with the hassle of the hot compresses.
I just have to hope that he finally realizes how BAD this is and actually step up to help. I would have thought that it was bad enough to know this COULD happen. I just can't stop thinking of the worse.

I got my newspaper today and there was a recipe for potato chip cookies! But there is no chocolate in them. Just thought that was funny:rofl:

Here's the recipe
1 cup margerine
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups potato chips crushed
1 cup nuts chopped

Cream margerine and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla, beat well. Add flour, salt and baking soda, stir until well mixed. Add potato chips and nuts, mix. Drop unto lightly greased cookie sheet and bake 12 minutes at 350! I don't think it sounds good at all but you might!
