PT Gift Ideas for DD with Hypotonia

DD#1 needs a gift list and I am trying to include any good toys that would help her strengthen herself through play. She has hypotonia and ataxia. PT suggested the Rody horse, a ride on toy you push with your feet, and a truck or something she can push across the floor while walking on her feet. OT suggested short markers or crayons to force her to grasp them correctly.

Any other good ideas?

This is an article that my DH ran across. It's a great article ... now mind you, I am not anti-medication at all. I can say without a doubt there are some people that really need it. But I think there are a lot of professionals (medical and educational) that are sometimes a little med-happy. Either way, whatever you feel on the subject, read over the article. It is excellent.

Now that you know that you child has SN, do you see any of his/her special traits in yourself or your spouse/SO?

Being one of the 1st people to suggest the possibility of a disability/difference/SN in children, I hear this all of the time... the parent says, "I was the same way as a child." Or, "My DH/SO does the same thing." Or, "I didn't get any help and I turned out okay."

Have you thought or said this before?

Younger ds was just diagnosed with ADHD

Younger ds was just diagnosed with ADHD this week. The doctor put him on meds. He is starting therapy and swimming lessons. He also has to go back to the neurologist on Monday for another test. School is going to classify him under section 504.

Am I missing anything that needs to be done? Any and all tips are appreciated.

My DD is Student of the Month!!

My dd was selected as Student of the Month for her entire 8th grade class. I'm so excited for her!
This is so huge for her because it's not something i had ever thought she would receive, it usually goes to popular kids or kids who do better academically and socially. Grades alone are not what determine who receives the award but i still never thought she would get it.
She gets to fill up a small bulletin board with pics of herself and her friends, family or pets. Little stories about herself and things she likes/dislikes and it goes on display in the glass trophy case in the school's front lobby. She will also get her picture in our small town newspaper.
She came to the car after school Friday smiling from ear to ear telling me she was chosen.
I was so excited for her i almost cried!!
This is so good for her right now with her anxiety issues and self esteem issues. I hope this gives her the incentive to try even harder in school and be more confident.

Does your SN child take any supplements?

If so what do they take, what are the benefits, and where do you purchase them?

Dd has a horrible diet and refuses all "medicine" but she will take a chewable multivitamin. She does okay in school but sometimes has a problem staying focused, etc... So I was thinking of getting her some fish oil supplements for kids. Any advice?

My youngest has tics. We brought him to a neurologist but he did not exhibit any tics during that visit. Now I think his allergy sniffing and throat clearing may be another tic. Also he gets whiney and over stimulated very easily. Anybody else care to share your experiences?
