DS#1 is 13 this year and doesn't want to trick or treat with his siblings. I think it's okay either way. I'm just curious at what age most kids stop trick or treating. Do they still tag along, just not dressed in costume?

It really seems to vary quite a bit from community to community but kids in our area trick or treat from very young...all thru middle school (6-8 grade). Some high school kids still do it as well...not that many, but some do. The more the merrier IMO!

Oldest DD is in 7th grade this year (she's 12) and was on the fence trying to decide if she wanted to or not. Dh kiboshed it ~ she'll go along with us but will be in charge of handing out our goodies to those we meet in the street. (since we're not home we hand out "glow necklaces" as we go along).

Age 12 is the cut off age in this house. They are free to dress up and help hand candy out at the door but they no longer go door to door for candy themselves. If they want candy i will buy them one bag each of their favorite kind.

My kids are still young (7 and 9) but I have noticed that we have high school kids who trick or treat in our neighborhood....and I am fine with it....they are all dressed up ....they usually go in groups....they are doing something fun and safe (and not stupid) and they usually let the little kids in front of them at houses and always always they wish me a "happy halloween" and say "thank you"...in my opinion....kids grow up so incredibly fast, if these kids want to just be kids and they are decent about it....let them!!
