My boys had just started cub scouts before we moved. I am trying to decide if I want to mess with getting them signed up here or not. Seems like we are already plenty busy and they haven't asked about it yet.

My girls were both in girl scouts when they were younger as was I, and I really liked it.

That's something only your family and its dynamics can decide. I do know, that scouting seems really good on all fronts, even in retrospect from adult males, so it will depend on what else you have them in - something may have to give. My son isn't too excited about it - it's a take it or leave it, dad enjoys it more, but I hope that'll change as he gets older and does more.

Scouting is a great program!

We are just going the 4-H route at our house. I just started a K-2nd program, so will just continue with that avenue since it it so strong in our community.

My ds started scouts this year and he really enjoys it. I would have to agree that it is something for you and your kids to decide. You don't want to over extend there time so that they don't have time to just be a kid and hang out at home.

my daughter was a girl scout for 4 years and decided the end of last years troop that she was bored with it and didnt want to do it anymore so shes not doing it this year . this year shes in 4th grade and would of been a jr . shes been on a bowling league for 3 years and is more into that now . i figure maybe she will want to get back into another year but for now i wont force it

My older son did cub scouts for a few years til we moved abroad, when we returned to the states he just wasn't interested in anymore. My younger son was never interested. When my older son was involved, I was also really involved and he had a good time and enjoyed the activities. It really all depends on the adults involved, if you don't have parents that want to volunteer their time and make it fun, it won't be. Luckily you can probably choose from several different packs depending on your area.

My son is in boy scouts. Just got "life", the step before eagle, at the last court of honors (where the boys get badges and get rank advancements). He loves scouting, and my dh loves participating in it too. Sometimes I think dh likes it better than ds....all that male bonding. They go somewhere almost every month...either camping or skiing, or canoeing, etc. He has the opportunity to go to the Boundary Waters this summer where they portage (or whatever it's called) their own canoes and canoe and camp along the waters. It's supposed to be very strenuous but also fun. I HIGHLY recommend scouts. If my ds could only do one activity, scouts is probably the one I'd pick. HTH

Our daughter is a second-year Brownie. She loves everything about it! She gets to do things that my husband and I don't do, like carolling and camping.
