Have you ever...

-Locked yourself out of your house while DH is gone?

-Had your DH do routine maintenance on the car before he leaves only to get a flat tire a day after he's gone?

-Been in a similar sticky situation and had to call on a friend or family member to help you out?

I thought it would be interesting and fun to share our OMG moments from past (or present) deployments. These are things that may have seemed like a really sticky situation at the time but that you can laugh about now.

Here is mine: Two days, yes, TWO DAYS after DH left, I locked myself out of our house! DS and I were going to take the dog for a walk and as soon as I shut the door I realized what I'd done. Of course its more than a little cold outside and I was instantly worried about what to do. Since DH was gone, I had my house locked up like Ft Knox and I was just sure there was no way to get in! Luckily my neighbor across the street was home and her DH came over and got in through my living room window. Of course now I'm extremely careful...and yes, my living room windows are now locked! But at the time it was a little scary! Now I just laugh when I think about.

Even funnier, that same neighbor, (who's DH is now deployed!) locked herself out of her house tonight and had to come over and call the housing guys to come unlock her door because her whole house was locked up tight. Luckily she doesn't have any kids and we got a good laugh out of it but it could have been a lot worse since it snowed about 4 inches today and its bitter cold outside. It just got me thinking there must be other wives that have similar stories! I can't wait to hear some of yours!!

We used to own some rental houses that we have since sold, but twice when dh was gone, like the day he left, they were broken into and I had to deal with getting someone over there to secure them again, and deal with the insurance and stuff! Both times it happened to be the day he left when it happened! My husband was not deployed but out of town on business on both occassions. He was actually on his way to China so I didn't get to even tell him for a couple of days!

I have several too!!!!!! when my hubby was set to leave which was on a sunday that saturday the shock broke in our van, well he is a mechanic and of course all his tools were in storage locked up tight lol. A couple weeks went by and I took the van to get fixed and borrowed my moms van and left my keys and everything with the shop well wouldnt you know I wasnt smart enough to grab the house key off the keychain lol. Thank God I had given my neighbor a spare well wouldnt you know she was at work on base which I cant get on lol so I had to send someone else to the base to get the keys so I could get in hahahahahahaha. Then dh puter broke I did everything I could think of to fix it with no luck so I had to take it to a friend for him to do it lol. We just got new neighbors a lovely nice younger married couple well the husband has become my surogate hubby lol having to help me carry the laundry out or groceries in or laundry in watching the kids so I can run to the store for 5 minutes I swear everything goes haywire when your other half isnt here lol. Now when my hubby calls me he says ok what have you had to have the neighbor help you with this time lol we get a big kick out of it. I think when hubby gets home I am gonna plan a fun night out for us and the neighbors for all the help they have given me while hubby is gone.

We were totally snowed in one year when DH was gone. You couldn't even open the front door anymore and I sent him a picture of our van snowed in all the way to the roof. You know what his first question was? "Did you try to start it? You can't leave a car parked too long in the cold!"
Yeah, sure, let me start digging that tunnel out to my car and start it!!!

Yep- all of the above. Even got questioned by the MPs as they caught me attempting to crawl through the kitchen window so DD, dog and I could get back inside.
Flat tires, no problem now. my problem is that I woke up with a flat and couldn't get the jack under the car without dying since our driveway is a steep hill - had to get 2 guys to help!

Gotta love y independence

Well, DH was not gone, but at work which was an hour drive from the house and another thirty min to where I was at. It was in the mid 80s as it was still early in the day. I was putting my son in the car and he grabbed my keys and I did not notice it. I shut the door and begin digging through my purse for keys. In the meantime my son locks the doors. I am begging him to hit the unlock button, but he gets mad and just throws them down. I am freaking out....A lady sees what has happened and goes to get the store manager at Target. He calls the fire department. Here comes the fire truck...the ambulance and anything else you can think of. They break into my car and get my son, make sure he is not dehydrated and then give me a small lecture about not knowing my keypad combo( I know it now) to open the door. It had to be the most frightening and embarassing day of my life. I will say this. If you ever do this, it is an emergency and the fire department or police will respond immediately. Funny thing, after being made fun of. My SIL did the same thing with 3 kids two weeks later....

Well, I don't know if this counts, my dh is not military....but.....he was out of town, and I was about 8 months pregnant, well in the middle of the night guess what happens?? The battery died in the smoke detector...beep beep beep...and we have pretty hight ceilings, and I am 5'2", we don't have a ladder, so all I can do is take the broom handle, aim and jump to hit the button on the smoke detector....are you laughing yet...
