as you know, or may not know, I am divorced and remarried. All of the children have their medical/dental insurance through my current dh. Of course my older children have their father's last name. And I now have my current dh's last name.

Well, the kids dentist office calls here once a month (ds has braces, so we go that often) and repeatedly call me by my first husbands's last name. Now, I know you are thinking "what is the big deal?". Well, my husband's last name is all over their paperwork as well as my name with his last name. And I have told them more than once what my name is.

The thing that bugs me the most is that people just don't pay attention. I know all she is doing is looking at the patient's name and making assumptions. But come on.....divorce is not a new thing here...and neither is being remarried and having a different last name than your children.

Maybe my expectations are just too high...yet again. Ughh!!

How frustrating! I would call them and tell them to put a note in your file or something - and I would point out how common it is to have a different name than your child in this day and age!

When I was in grade school our school nurse called my mom and asked for Mr Or Mrs Ronnie last name. My mom had been divorced since I was 3 - and I'm pretty sure this call was after my father had even passed away!! To make matters worse it's an extremely small town - so the nurse knew my mom outside of school!

Thanks for pointing this out. I made this mistake this year with one of my student's parents. I felt HORRIBLE after doing it. I know I hurt that mom's feelings, and it wasn't my intent. I will do a better job of checking things out. Sometimes the information isn't right in front of me, but I need to be more respectful about that.

If it happened once....I agree with you.

However, I deal with these people on a monthly basis. So, I do expect just a little bit of common courtesy. Everyone makes mistakes, we are only human. Like I said, the thing that gets me the most upset is that I have pointed it out more than once, and they just aren't paying attention.

I'd mention it to the dentist or the office manager. If the staff person isn't paying attention on that one little point, it makes you wonder what else they letting fall through the cracks.

I understand where you are coming from, personally I would be irritated because they keep doing it rather than the actual name mix up. You're right if it was 1 time, that's fine. But every time.. I would have them put a note on the file.

I know that would be frustrating! If I ever get married again, it will be hard to change my name...it's nice now since we all three have the same name.

I agree, have them put a note on your file..
