I also bite the bullet and buy each kid their own yearbook. They look over them again and again so I figure it's a good purchase.

Ours are also soft covered, kind of like a thicker magazine. I think they stay away from the hard covers due to cost.

I have not bought my daughter one yet because she is in First grade but I will be buying my son one because this is his last year in the middle school and I would like him to be able to have his friends and teachers sign it for him.

To be honest, I'm shocked that there are people who don't buy them. I can understand if money is an issue, but to me, I've never even considered not buying one. It's a part of childhood memories. My dd looks at hers for hours and hours after she gets it and I like looking at it to. I've actually bought 2 copies so I can put one up for safe keeping for when she grows up. My youngest is going into kindergarten next year, so I don't know if I will be able to afford to buy 4 copies. I will probably have to do 1 each. I only have a couple of the elementary ones left from when I was a kid. I wish I still had them all. To me, it is a precious memory that should not be lost.

I buy them every year. I always have. The only reason I would not buy them would be if we didn't have the money. I love looking at them!

Ds is in a montessori that goes through 8th grade. He is in 2nd year pre-primary (next year is Kindergarten) and they already have a yearbook. I'll be getting it, definitely!!! His school has a lot of parents that had also gone to the the school, which is pretty neat. I.e. ds goes to the school, then sends his kids there. So you never know, that would be really cool for *ds's son* to have his dad's yearbook from when he was in preschool!! The way I look at it, it goes to a good cause.

My kids love them, but I think they are a rip! That said, my fifth grader is on the yearbook staff (!), so we will definitely be buying one for her and my kindergartner!

No way! I like my high school ones, but the ones before that are clutter. I am NOT saddling my children with that. Now, like aliadam, in that situation I probably would, but just to have one - uh, no. My kindergartener could have cared less! He also doesn't care in first grade. In fifth grade, I probably will just to have one from his last year of elementary school, but other than that, I feel I will be saddling him - or most likely me - with needless clutter later in life.

When I was growing up, we never had yearbooks, just the yearly class group photo and individual photos. I was surprised that my daughters elementary school had them. I don't buy them, class photos are more than enough this young, besides she doesn't know many people not in her class anyway.

DD's school is trying something new this year, they are doing the yearbook on a dvd. From what I understand the school has over 1000 pictures. You tell them what teachers's rooms you want and those pictures are downloaded into your dvd. It's $12.00 but what happens when dvds go away to electronic heaven with 8 tracks. I think I will get it just because she's in kindergarten. I'm a sucker I know.
