I know this is a pretty old thread, but I thought I would reply anyway. I am Liz, mommy of 2 boys and wife of one handsome US Airman!!
My DH has been in the AF for 20 years (this Sept). We are in a unique position compared to most of his colleagues. We have really just started our family, and are looking forward to staying in the military and experiencing as much life and culture as we can. Most people at this point are looking to get out.
Together we have been stationed at Spangdalem Germany (briefly), Okinawa Japan, and now Whiteman AFB Missouri. We would love to go back overseas, and are hoping to get orders within the next year. My husband has also been stationed in Guam, Florida, North Carolina, Portugal, and Turkey.
I had absolutely no exposure to the military before marrying my husband. Now I love it!! I can't imagine life outside the military community now.
Christy, I know you asked others about Japan. We had an on again/off again love for it there. We did love it, but it was a very hard assignment for us for various reasons. We would gladly go back though. The best part was meeting families from all branches of the military. Some of my best friends to this day are Marine Corps wives.
