Welcome to all the new military wives/moms. I am prior service Army with 10 years in (most of it AGR w/ the National Guard). My oldest son just returned home from Iraq to Fort Lewis, WA two weeks ago and this mom can now rest a little easier.

Niki, I just feel compelled to send you my hugs and prayers. I know so much is changing for you right now and I can only imagine the mixed emotions you are going through. My son is 11B and with the 3rd Stryker Brigade at Fort Lewis. Stay strong and know that there are a lot of other military wives here to provide support and encouragement along the way.

TankMom and Stacey, hugs from one military mom to another. Even though we have walked this journey before, it's a whole different thing when it is your child and I send you hugs as well as you support their choices. You are true heroes for what you do for your family.

Donna, I am thinking about you as you await your husband's return from Iraq and commend you for your strength. It really is true that military families have the hardest job. I know first hand that it was much easier being the soldier than it has been being the mom waiting and worrying.

Lean on each other and provide support to those who are new to this. I know, in my situation, the other moms are what got me through my son's deployment and continue to be a constant support.

I was "married to the military" before and swore never to do it again. When I met my husband, I had two rules 1) No Military and 2) No Cops. He had two rules as well....1) No Smokers and 2) No Moms. I think he was scared to be a step-parent, but he is doing a fabulous job to my 9 year old daughter! We are coming up on our first year anniversary and will find out soon if we where in the world we will be living after February. I have lived in NC all my life. In fact, I have lived in this town since I was four. I hate to leave, but the porspect of Colorado Springs counds good to me. We do have a few frineds out there and my husband has an Uncle living in Denver. My daughter is definetely looking forward to seeing some snow.

My husband and I both met while attending Tech School in the Air Force. I got out a couple of months ago but my husband is still in. He was a public affairs specialist, but recently was picked up for OSI . So, He will be going to school soon for 3 months. I miss being in the military but, I will also say that I am happy and blessed to have the opportunity to stay home with my girls and give them more of me

MY DH is in the Australian Navy. He has served 9 years so far and I have been with him for6 of those years.

He has done 3 deployments. Solomon Island (2000), Bands Aceh (2005, Tsunami Relief) and Asia in May of this year.

Hello all,

I'm a Navy wife, we are now going on 12 1/2 years of service. We've been married that long as well, met during training. I served 8 years myself, but decided to get out for our boys and the sanity of our family. Rotations for deployment and even watchstanding can be tough for dual military. I am now a working mom preparing for the single parent life next year. DH will be leaving us for the shipyards on the east coast for one year. Nice to meet you all.

Deya, I could only imagine what it would be like to have both spouses serving. You wouldn't have much family time together I imagine.

It was rough, especially when we had our first child. We managed to convince our commands to allow us to work the same 12 hour shift, but they were watch rotations. We would get off a mid shift, pick the baby up and split the shift so one can sleep and the other one could watch the baby. Sometimes we had to leave him at the babysitter's over 36 hours just so we could sleep and function. We've done the year apart thing and several deployments. Don't know how we did it but we survived.

I, too, am a military wife to a Navy man--we've been married for almost 6 yrs. He will be deploying really soon and this is his third deployment, although this is the first one he's been on since our kids were born. We're worried about our 3 yr old son, who is quite attatched to his dad. Anyone who has gone through this that has any advice for us? Or what resources did you rely on? Thank God we have some family close by but as for an everyday thing, what did you do?
Honestly, I'm afraid....I know that I will be miserable, sad and overwhelmed. It'll be like being a single parent and I know I've got to be strong but I'm just afraid. My husband has never been to Iraq before and I will be worried everyday.
If any of you have any advice, thank you for your input.
Lena
