Has anyone had any problems with TRICARE health care insurance? Do you like their coverage? Do you like their referral program? Are you happy with the provider directory?

I ahve never had a problem with Tricare but have heard some complaints from others. We found a great dr and my OB coverage was fantastic! I paid all of $5 for DD:>) The only difficulty I have had is just that everything take s abit of effort- ie referrals since when I was preggers they referred me to a different Ob than I wanted. But, I just had to spend time on the phone and they fixed it. But- I have never had a serious issue where we needed to see any sort of specialist other than ped/OB. We've always taken the kids on base though and have found that soem of the drs aren't native English speakers and that communication is an issue- but just requested a different primary dr and again no problems switching.

I have heard many people having trouble so don't know if we are an exception or if they were just difficult.

I’ve had Tri-Care for 15 years. We have never had a problem. Even before Dh retired I preferred to see civilian doctors rather than military doctors. They have even taken care of issues with an in network doctor trying to charge me unallowable charges.

I don't have experience with them from a subscriber end...but I do from a provider end (dental provider that is). From a provider end they are one of the easiest insurance companies to work with, and also one of the higher reimbursing for in-network providers. They always worked to get the patient the coverage for the individuals best option - not just the option they (the company) decided would be best. Hopefully that makes sense.

We have had it for 3 years with no problems. We do not go to military docs--ours are covered. Our biggest bills were from pregnancy & birth and we have never seen a bill. It's been great.

We had a civilian doc for both our kids' births and we didn't pay A CENT for both the OB and the hospital stay. Not even for the circumcisions!!!

The ONLY problem we had was our ultrasound was not covered...but we fought it and won.....that was a $480 bill!

We have never had a problem with Tricare and we use all civilian doc's. My daughter was really cheap too!

The only problem I had once, was when we transferred from the CG to the AF, our Insurance automatically changed from Prime to Standard.(We were told that it would stay the same.) One phone call later, and we were back on track.
I especially havev no complaints. I have always been seen on base, no qualms about that, and when I found out that I was having twins, I was referred off base, to the BEST Dr's ever, had ultrasounds every mth, was in hospital for a mth before the birth, a week after, and then had more surgery 2 weeks after the birth, my babies stayed in hospital for almost 3 weeks, and I still have yet to pay a cent!!!
I thank the military for the Tricare Service. We could not have afforded to have our babies otherwise!
