that you would want someone else to understand about going through a divorce...

and/or, if your parents are divorced, one thing about living through a divorce as a child...

Ok, I'll go first...

I would want people to understand that EVERY situation is different, and that wether it is something you want or not it is very depressing and damaging to your self esteem, and when you feel like that you don't always make the best decisions, but you DO THE BEST that you can given the circumstances that you are in.

People who had gone through a divorce warned me when it finally becomes final I would most likely be sad or even depressed about it. I could not fathom that - I had endured 16 yrs of verbal and emotional abuse. I found out those people were right.

When the divorce was finally over I did find myself sad, I cried for a week. I could not understand why until a friend told me I was mourning the life and relationship I never had and had always hoped for. It was true, I spent most of those years giving it another chance, giving him another chance, hoping with all my heart things would change but they never did. Getting those signed papers in mail was a relief but it also forced me to put those hopes and dreams on a shelf.

I eventually took those hopes and dreams down...Life goes on with or without you.

Being a single mom is the hardest job anyone could do and hopefully you will have the support of the ex in your life and that person would be on the same level as you when it comes to the child! (I am newly divorced, it was final October 2006)
