Tonight my six year old was on the toilet for awhile. Dh went in to see if he was ok and he told dh he thought he had diarrhea. He said his butt hurt. So dh thinking it was going to be a little red looked at it and he had a huge hemorrhoid. It was protruding out of his little tushy. After a short time it shrunk back up and is no longer visable. It freaked us out.
Has anyone ever had this happen to such a young kid. My mil swears that my dh had this same problem and the doctor made him drink mineral oil once a day for a week. I am not going to do that until i talk to ds's doctor. I did go get him some prune juice and some fruits to eat tomorrow. He hasn't been eating as much as he should.
Poor kid!!

Poor thing! My son has never had hemorroids, but he does have chronic constipation. My son eats fruit and drinks juice every day and it doesn't help. So if the fruits don't work, you could try some myralax. It is a powder you mix in their drinks every day, and it really works for my son. It is tasteless too, so that helps. Hope your son feels better soon!

Wyndser is 2 1/2 and has this problem. I think Carson, 6 1/2 might, too. He doesn't tell me much about it anymore, but he used to have them. They both tend to get constipated, so they have problems in that area.

Well I don't know if my ds has hemorrhoids (haven't seen his hiney in a while), but I know he had terrible constipation for a while. We could hear him grunting through the bathroom door. Our pediatrician put him on miralax...at that time prescription, but now over the counter. It's sort of like metamucil, but I think doctors like it alot better and it's not grainy in a drink or food like metamucil...it totally dissolves. So if you think he might be constipated causing it, try that. We gave it to our son for a few months, and he's never needed it since then.

Don't do the mineral oil, as there is a danger of aspiration and coating the lungs. If you can slip prune juice into smoothies it can help, too. But I would still mention it to the Dr. and keep on top of it to avoid surgery in later years. He may always make sure he takes in enough fiber. I think it's Fibersure, but they make these crackers that are good - like graham crackers.

Definitely increase the fresh fruit, raw veggies, and real whole wheat products (if it says whole wheat 'enriched' it is the same as white bread. It is not real whole wheat). Also plenty of water. If he is constipated and he'll take this, give him a 1/2 tsp. of molasses at bedtime. He'll have to go in the morning, and no cramps. I actually take 1 Tablespoon of the stuff when I need to and it keeps me regular and NO cramps.
This is just my opinion, I'm not a dr (and I don't play one on tv!) but in the case of hemorroids I don't think they automatically 'go back'. What I mean is I think once you are prone to them, I think you might always have them. I am prone to them and while a lot of times they don't act up, they are always 'there'.
Definitely mention something to the ped., and I would definitely hold off on the mineral oil - I've read somewhere it should not be used in children as it makes the absorbtion of other vitamins and minerals difficult. They might put him on a mild stool softener.

Make sure he drinks plenty with this. If it is anything like the other fiber products it does no good unless they drink lots and lots with it. In fact it might make it worse before it makes it better if they don't drink a lot of water/fluids with it. Good luck!

There is also some rootbeer cod liver oil that apparently works wonders and is over the counter at Walmart.
