year round school or a big summer break? I know this has more than likely been posted before, but I can't find it. I remember doing both in school and to me the year round was better. What does every one else think?

I'm going with summer break.....Kids are young only once, they will have full time jobs with no long vacations soon enough!

There are benefits to both, again there's no right or wrong answer just personal preference. My preference is year-round school. We were in traditional for 2 years, and then switched to year-round. I see a lot more improvement with the year-round. It's important to keep on a consistent schedule, especially with special-needs children. Year-round school keeps the breaks minimal which prevents falling behind.

I think we'd prefer year round school with a a number of 2 or 3 week breaks. I find they forget a lot in the summer and get quickly bored and miss their school friends after a few weeks off.

I personally loved it. By the time I was getting burned out on school we got a 2-3 week break, by the time I missed school it was time to go back for 6 weeks. We got longer holiday breaks and a 6 weeks summer break.

I can't imagine going all year round. To me that's just a convenience to working parents.

I have no idea...we've only experienced a school year that had a summer break. I have friends in different states that have the 'all year' system and they love it.

Funny you should say that, Stormy, because I was thinking it would be a benefit for SAHM's who get worn out having their kids home all summer. Not all SAHM's mind you, but many.

As a teacher and parent, I like having the summer break. I agree with Shell that kids are only young once and will have their entire lives to work year-round. I think that they need to run, jump, play, and be imaginative during those beautiful summer days. They need to have that down time so that they can rejuvenate for the upcoming school year. In the fall, they come back refreshed and eager to begin.

I would love year round school! I think having 2-3 weeks off at different times throughout the year, such as in the fall , winter and spring would be so nice for having a family vacation! I would love to be able to spread things out through the year, and not have to try to fit everything in during the summer!
