My four year old already has a "bestest bestest friend", but my others were at least second grade before they got someone to be that close to.

I guess it depends on how much they are around other kids... Ds bestfriend is a dog...literally. Sad I know, but since he doesn't go to preschool or daycare, he isn't around kids much unless the girls are here.
