Yep I did it. But for me, it stunk. My best friend was in a lower grade adn I asked her to skip with me. Her mom said yes, then her dad said NO! LOL I missed all the parties because she was trying to figure out a way to ditch school, AND GOT CAUGHT. LOL There was nothing major going on anyway, I think someone had a party at their house and that was it.

I never did it and won't (knowingly) let my kids either. We're big sticklers on responsibility here so I would tell her to play on her own time and not the schools. But that's just me. I'm sure it won't be the end of the world if she does.

It's kind of a rite of passage. I didn't dare do it because of my father, yet my stepsister, same age, grade, etc. got away w/it, but most kids did. Before allowing it, however, I would find out exactly what she would do during that time.

I don't know if I should say this, but I skipped school so much (in high school) it was just another ditch day for me. ((before you think I was a big ol' loser, I still graduated with a scholarship.... I just felt hs was a joke.))

I feel that the school acknowledges that it is ditch day... so why not? As long as she's not out getting into real trouble of course!!!!

I don't have a high-schooler, but my thought is you can either tell her no and risk her skipping anyway and you won't know where she is; or you can allow her to skip with the stipulation that you know where she will be.

Oh. Good point!! I think she is actually going to take a "college day". She is allowed two and has one left. She and two friends want to go tour the 2 year college here (one of them is planning to attend it), and who knows..maybe something will perk Katie's interest, too. Then, they can all legitimately be out..and can legally do lunch, too!

I did it. Honestly, we went to a big party. I will probably let me kids do it as long as I know basically where they will be and what they will be doing. It's just such a hard thing! You want them to have fun and enjoy every moment of this time but so many things can happen. Hopefully you can come with with a way for her to attend but for you to know she is safe. Maybe updates from her so often on where she is and what she is doing?
