No worries, happymom! That's what this forum is all about...opinions! And I don't consider you "Anti-American" for your comments. Not in the least. Nor do I consider Lt. Col. Repya "Anti-American" for his. I agree with what he said as far as how some protesters of the war have behaved, though. I just think that's SO wrong to protest at someone's funeral!! And as far as what he said about how politicians seem to not have answers about how to END the war, well...I think he's right there too. Thing is, I just think that the people who "got us into this war" had no intentions of "getting us out" any time soon...Not until terrorism was under control, and the threat the United States had passed. And so far, after all these years, it seems the threat continues.
I was going to say that I ALSO do not "support the war", as far as I think war is wrong. The deaths of innocent people who just happen to be "at the wrong place, at the wrong time" is just plain tragic. This is what gets to me the most. Unfortunatley, that's war.
Having said that, however, as an American I thank God we have our military who protects us against harm. I would rather our conflicts (terrorism) be fought on foreign soil than here at home. (And my DH, who is in the Guard, agrees.) Because our troops have gone over THERE to fight against terrorism, we have been spared alot more tragedy (such as 911, or even more devious plots) right here in America that we (the public) may never even know about. And for that, I salute them with all my heart! It's jsut sad that we live in a world where we have to defend our way of life, just because others don't agree with it.
Well, thanks for letting me VENT. I can see what Lt. Col. Repya means by how "tired he is", relating to the points he made in this article. I just thought I would see what others thought about what he wrote.
