How do you feel about the Gender Issue. Do you prefer when a female teacher teaches your girls and a male for your boys, do you not care at all. Do you like all girl private schools? Does it matter or not to you?

It doesn't matter to me as long as they are a good teacher and, obviously, act appropriately no matter which gender they are.

I had good male teachers, but most of them (until college of course) were female. Now in college, they were 99% male. Just the way of the world, but if I had NEVER had a male teacher it would have probably seemed rather odd at the time. I don't really remember giving it much thought at the time though.

I agree with Claire. It really doesn't make a difference to me, as long as my kids are taught what they are supposed to be taught, and they understand it. My DD will be in 5th grade and has had 2 girl teachers and 2 male teachers (in her old school they had the same teacher for 2 yrs). Both she and I (and DH) have liked them all. I think teaching STYLE plays a bigger part for me then gender does.

Gender does not matter to me at all either. The quality of education they provide does. That being said, I am very happy to see male teachers in my boys' school so they can see that men as well as women teach. Heck, I was happy to see that a teenage BOY is leading my 4 yr olds summer rec group, just so they have positive male role models and realize that teaching is open to both genders!

Gender of the educator doesn't matter to me. I have good and bad of both. But if it was possible where we lived I would totally send my children to all girls / all boys schools. I've read a couple of really convencing studies on the issue. I wish I could share these studies but it's been a long time and I haven't a clue where I found them or even what they are!

My dd had a male teacher in 4th grade and i thought he was AWESOME!!! He was very kind and patient, he's the father of a Down's Syndrome child so he is dedicated to helping children with learning issues. I thought he was the best teacher my dd had so far! I think honestly (nothing against the women teachers) that men are more patient with kids sometimes, they get less emotional and well, face it they don't get PMS! lol

Back in the BK days I was very into Sociology and Gender Issues. There were tons of studies that showed girls learned better in an all girl/female teacher environment and vice versa for boys. I do believe though that style is more important than gender.

I think we do need more male teachers in the system. There are so few. I think about all the fatherless kids that need a positive male role model.Even boys that their dad travels alot. It would benefit. But I don't think seperation of sexes. And teachers based on sex should be a rule or anything. Parents should be able to request a male if they think their child would progress more if it is an option.
