Hi,
I don't know if this is the right place for this or not but I thought ya'll might be able to give me some advice. I work at Starbucks and myself and some of the other employees have been collecting our free coffee beans ( we get 1 pound a week). We want to send them to some of the troops overseas, but I don't know how to go about doing this. Is coffee something they could even use???? We have about 25-30 pounds collected so it is going to cost a lot to ship. Does anyone know what to do???? Thanks so much!

I have 2 adopted soldiers through Adoptaussoldier.com. They pair you up with as many soldiers as you request. You get the name address and a list of stuff they are hoping to get in a package. If you let them know what you have to offer they might make other arrnagements for you.

They would LOVE Starbucks coffee! My suggestion is to use the flat rate packages that are $8.95 (they have a red circle on them and you can get them from the post office) and pack as much as you can into the boxes. It's the same price no matter how heavy it is.

The other thing is to grind it first, they don't have access to a grinder and sometimes not even to electricity.

I absolutely agree with the above poster. Also, I am a coffee idiot (dh just makes it, and I drink it!), but if you can get it to GROUND coffee, it would be a lot easier for them to use. They would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that, though. Last year my dad rounded up an entire storage room of "stuff" to send to the troops. (Word got out that he was collecting and soon donations were coming in by BOX FULLS from companies. Girl Scouts alone donated 80 cases of cookies...that is 960 boxes!!!!) Starbucks were one of their very favorite treats!!!!

You also could ask some local places like Bingo Parlors, etc. to donate their winnings to help with postage or see if management would let you set out a jar to collect money for shipping. That was one of my dad's biggest obstacles, too, since it literally took 1/2 a semi by the time they got done collecting. His local Bingo Parlor paid over $700 to ship everything! It was AWESOME!

The men and women overseas would LOVE that...again, just a little piece of home sent over to them

Check out our care packages thread. We have some members on here who have family members overseas that can share an address with you so you would know where to send it!

Great idea! Thanks!
