The other day my dd got really mad at my ds and hit him in the face!!! I do not allow them to hit each other and especially not in the face! So after I held him until he fell asleep, I talked to my dd. I told her she needed to write a 150 word essay on what she liked about her brother. After he woke up, I made HER read it to him. He just smiled and smiled~~it made him truly happy. He had no idea that I had disciplined her that way. After she read it, she hugged him (on her own). I think by having her to put it on paper, she realized how much she cares for him. Let's all remember, I am dealing with a 10 yr old dd who is starting to go through puberty. Can we all say MOODY?!?!

What a great idea!! I don't think my 7 yr old is quite ready for essays, but maybe, using the same principle, I could have him draw a picture and use captions for what he likes about his little brother!

That is a great idea. I will use that if my ds needs to do it. I could have him to draw something he likes doing with her, also. Thanks!!
