Our biggest problem right now living in Germany is the our internet/phone bill. Unfortunately according to my husband Germany doesn't have the "technology" like we have in the states as far as having an internet without a phone being connected to your house. We were talking about it and we can just use our internet (messenger) to talk to my family back home. We have TKS right now and the phone had to be hook up to have an internet. What's up with that? Our average phone bill every month is $150 ( after euros being converted) Even if we don't use our phone we still have to pay 40 euros for just having the phone. We can't have internet without that stupid phone it would drop our bill dramatically without that phone bill. I think its a big rip off and I'm looking at something else to see if they actually have the same stuff as we have in the states here. So far no luck about finding one.

Have you considered voice over IP? Or maybe phone cards?

I have family stationed in Germany. I will talk to my SIL and see what they do. They've lived there for six years now. I will get back to you!

you can use SKYPE to talk to your family and that is free...my husband is from Germany and we talked over this and webcame everyday. its saves money for sure. i asked him if there is cable modem and he said no because most people have satelight...sorry

Unfortunately guys we can't use any of those ideas. We have to have the PHONE to have the internet. I know it stinks really bad that's why I think its a rip off. I mean look at what we have back in the states compare here in Europe (maybe just Germany) but dang its too much. Grandparents needs to see our DS in the webcam every Sunday and DH is doing some online classes. I don't know if they do actually have some "cheaper" deals here in Germany I am afraid to ask because normally they think Americans got lots of money that's why I think everything is over price including the phone bill. Can you imagine we move from the third floor to the second floor (same building) to hook the phone/internet (again) its 100 euros. They just push a button in the basement. If I only know which button to push I should've done it myself. Its a waste of money really. I heard that since we don't pay their tax over here which is 19% at the end of the year we can get some of our money back from TKS. Maybe its just a wishful thinking. That's why I am angry right now but what can we do really? other that we take what they have there's nothing like home like America makes me proud to be one. We are spoiled with our technology

Where in Germany are you? They are stationed in Illeshiam (sp). Maybe I can call her and ask what the other options are.

I am not sure about having internet without a phone because we need both but your bill is way too high.
We have the basic phone service (13,70 Euro) plus flatrate internet (25,80 Euro) and we never pay more than 70 Euro every month.
We use Skype for phonecalls or predial 01056, that way you only pay 1,89 cents a minute even when you call the states.
We live offpost so we just went to the T-Punkt downtown. Do you have to have TKS when you live on post? I think TKS are really a ripoff, they charge you way to much for everything. Let me know if I can help you somehow.
