I was wondering what the ratio was of children attending public schools, private schools and the ones that are homeschooled. I am trying to post a poll with this and I am not sure that I did.

My dh is a teacher & our daughter will be going into 1st grade here in the public schools. Private schools here are way too expensive!!!

Public schools for us as they are excellent here. If there was a question about them or I felt the call to do that, I would homeschool in a heartbeat. I have not been impressed with the private schools in this area. JMO

I am very pleased with the public schools here. Though 2 of my 4 school aged kids will be going to a public charter school next year. It is smaller and has longer days and a strong academic emphasis. My other son choose not to change schools and my dd will be starting high school next year!

We started homeschooling Matthew when Tommy came home from the hospital and we were running constantly to doctor's appointments. It was just so hard to get up after being up all night, then not being able to sleep because Brandon would tear through the house. Home work was a nightmare for all of us, and Matthew was missing a lot of school. Once we began homeschooling, our family life changed dramatically for the better. Once Tommy's health improves, or at least evens out, we will consider sending him back. Possibly when Brandon is ready for Kindergarten and can go with him.

Its just tough to say for us, because the school board won't make exceptions for Tommy's health. I shouldn't have to choose which child is more important.

I live in a very small town so my dd will be going to public school but it is AWSOME. Most of the kids that grauated from this HS got into top colleges and for a full scholarship due to grades. I think it is nice to have that option. It is one of the reasons we moved here not only that my dh got a great job too. We moved from TX tho and if we still lived there she would be going to a private because of everything that happened in thoose schools Even if I had to work 2 jobs to pay I would have.

I finally got dh on board last night for homeschooling. We tried a private school with ds but had to withdrawl him after a week. There was one teacher and one aid and 30 kids. I explained to the teacher that ds had never ever been in daycare and he would need time to adjust and she said she understood. From day one she was calling me during class hours asking me what do because he was having a hard time sitting still, not listening and such. By the third day he was tired and acting out because he really didn't want to be there. We struggled every morning to send him off. Finally, enough was enough. She couldn't handle him and didn't have enough time to have one on one time to help him adjust.

Public schools here are a nightmare. Kids here are kind of rough. Again, the number of students is high and they go all day. They also don't do naps anymore. To me it just sounds like too much. Also, all the schools seem to care about these days is stupid standardized testing. I see alot of myself in my son. His emotions are alot like mine. I hated public school. Homeschooling would've been a dream for me. I'm lucky I live in a city where many things are offered to homeschoolers so finding activities and ways to be social won't be a problem.

Sent our 3 kids to Private school with 2 of them trying Public school and hating it

Our High School is based on Franciscan teachings and class size averages 10-15 students
at the most. 259 students in entire school and they are encouraged to try all activities.
School is more College Prep with option to attend BOCES program for Technical training.

Love the uniforms- NO BULLYING and the kids are expected to practice responsibility, respect & resourcefulness

We have an AMAZING public school system here. The only thing that we do not agree on is the Kinder. program. my mom teaches at the Christian school here and we have decided to send our DD1 there in the fall. DD2 will go there as well- probably the twins. The Chirstian school has a great child to teacher/aid ratio. It has an aid in every classroom and it has a very nice set up. The christian school just voted (separately from the public school vote) to keep with the Kind. schedule that we are all for and we are very happy about that!!! Our daughter will go from 9-2 Monday thru Thursdays! We love that idea- because my hubby doesn't work most Fridays-Sundays, so if we want to go somewhere, we won't have to pull her from school that extra day. AND for the parents that need to have their children there longer- there is a before and after school activity program that is very nice. My mom helps with the before school program that starts at 6:30 and goes until 8:50. School starts at 9:00 and when it's done at 2:00 the afterschool program goes until 6:00. The before school program includes breakfast, games, a rest area set up with mats if the children are still "waking up" when they arrive and scheduled activities. We love the Christian school. The yearly costs for it include: trasportation to and from school if needed (by buses), lunch (you choose how many school lunches to buy) and all field trips that they go on. We will pay by semester and it is certainly affordable. It ends up being $1.65 for lunch a day and unlike most public schools in our area, our kids at the Christian school get a lot of fresh foods- not the pre-made meals that the school just heats up. When she starts 1st grade she'll start school at 8:30 and be done by 3:15.

My dd attends the Christian school here!! We love it and she is happy there. She did her pre-K there last year and will be in kindergarten there.

I have been in all three and I do think that homeschooling was probably my fav as a kid. I hated public school and private school was good but only went to 5th grade. So, I homeschooled through high school. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I got to do things that I wouldn't have otherwise.

My one big regret is that I didn't get to do the whole prom thing! Sure would have been fun to dress up and all that fun, but didn't have a boyfriend at that time in life anyway!!
