Ugh, why is parenting so hard sometimes? My 8 yr old was playing video games, and he was getting so upset about it that he was practically crying!!! I made him turn it off, so now he is upstairs crying!!! I just can't win today!

You did the right thing. It sounds like he definately needed a break from it.

I do the same thing with my ds. I tell him, if a game is making him feel that way, then he is spending way too much time and energy on it! I think you did the right thing, although our kids won't always see it that way.

I do the same thing when my 5 yr. old DD is stuck or frustrated on something new she's trying, and she starts crying and starts becoming self defeated. I ask her to take a break until she's ready to try again when she's got a more positive attitude about it. It's hard, but we have to preserve their self esteem!!

I feel your pain! I have had that happen, too. It is so hard, but he probably did need a break (or as often happens here, could be one is over tired or VERY hungry)! I am also having an "I can't win today, day!" We had an incredibly busy weekend, and these 2 are way too tired and are acting out, crying, arguing, etc. I have decided to skip the pool because I think we all need an inside, quiet day, even though it is approaching 90 degrees outside...

You did the right thing!!!!

Hey I took video games away from my 14 year old DS yesterday because he was so intense and frustrated he yelled at his sister when she asked him a question!!! So he can't play them aging until tommorrow!

I felt bad after I did it. But kids need to realize that losing a video game isn't an excuse to get mad....hey it's a game it's supposed to be fun....right?

So...don't feel bad...we've all been there!!!

I do the same thing with my almost 6 year old dd. Sometimes she has a meltdown when it doesn't go her way when she is doing stuff. Then when I tell her to have a break from it she cries also. I feel your pain Happymom!
