According to my dd she is the only one her age (13) that does!!! We have been lax in the summer, but now with school starting back up we are trying to get her to bed before 10. Is that unreasonable? I would not care, if she was not so darn hard to get up in the morning!

Tell her she is not alone!! My 12 year old goes to be at 8:30pm still..and my 17 year old is also in bed BY 10pm. She works part-time, and on the nights she closes, she has to be home by 10pm and in bed by 10:15pm. We are MEAN!!! And you are exactly right..we have tried giving more leeway, only WE are the ones who get to deal with grouchy kids the next day.

Oh they certainly do!!! My 16 yo dd is a real nasty piece of work if she's tired so I usually try to get her in bed by 9 PM during the school year. Same with my 14 yo son (slthough he's not so crabby in the mornings). During the summer they could stay up until 10PM, but not later unless it was something special.

My dd's bedtime is 9:30 but she should really be in bed earlier. She takes forever to get ready in the morning, so I have to wake her up earlier than anyone else just to make sure she's ready in time.

DD- Maria was 18 and had a 10:30 bedtime her Senior year
DS- Andrew [17] and Beccabear [16] will be in bed by 10 pm
they will have 7:30am Homeroom
Those are on schoolnights/ vacation or weekends midnight is curfew

I am definitely going to share this info with my dd!!

My 14 dd wants to be in bed as soon as she is able to! She sets her alarm clock for 5:30 am and is up and gets ready to catch the bus by 6:30 am.

If this helps Mommies across the water are tough too.

In fairness Im flexible on holidays and Conor doesnt have to be in school for another fortnight.

In schooltime thats a different matter. Conor will be in bed by 9pm with lights out at 9.30 unless he has late classes or activities. Mainly because if he doesnt get enought sleep he can be a rat bag and would argue round in circles about nothing.

When my daughter was about 12 she went through the stage of wanting to stay up late. I fought her for a while but then I told her she could stay up as late as she wanted , But...SHE was responsible to get herself herself up and dressed and get to the bus. If she missed the bus or was late she would lose activities after school , computer time, T.V. etc...Well this lasted a couple of nights then she, on her own, decided that it was better to go to bed at 8:30 so she could get up in the morning. She is now 14 and still sets her own alarm goes to bed at 8:30 and gets up on her own at 5:30.

Even my girls when they were in high school and had already turned 18 still had to be in bed at 10:30 and asleep hopefully by 11

My 12 y/o has to be in his room by 9:00 in bed 9:30 and he is usually asleep by 9:33 LOL

SHe is just using the good old I am the only one thing or every one else gets to. DS is using that with us on the cellphone thing.
