Just wondering, with all that is going on with my niece, if others have gone through this? Wondering if others are GOING through this? Maybe we can help with ideas, suggestions for what worked, what didn't, etc? Just a support group kind of thing, since so many teens go through this kind of thing on some level??

I don't have teens so I can't help much but wanted to say I'm sorry to hear about your niece and both you and her are in my prayers. I'm glad you've sent the emails out as updates.

I dealt with depression (and self-mutilation) in myself when I was a teenager. I would be happy to try and answer questions or provide some perspective (as someone who's been through it) if you ever need it.

Yes, my 13 yr old was diagnosed with depression this year. Hers is mild and it runs in our family (dh and older dd). Hers is dealt with with medication and melatonin to help her sleep. Unfortunately I think my ds is headed down the same path.

My soon to be 16 yr old was diagnosed with manic depression 3 yrs ago after months of counseling & having a suicide pack with a friend. We have tried lots a meds and have finally found one that works. It's very spendy but worth it. We are now looking at the underlying causes for depression so we are looking at ADHD and we know she has sensory intergration dysfunction. But we are starting high school next week (she's going to be a sophomore) and the school is writing into her IEP her sensory diet. We are also redoing the tests for learning disabilities so we have a better picture of were she needs help at.

I must have missed what's happening to your neices but feel free to ask questions and I'm one to give honest answers if I have them.
