Or before? In the past other than pictures I haven't done anything special because I didn't want to make ds more nervous. But now that he's going to be in K, I wanted to start some kind of little tradition with him.

He does like the restaurant Brio and has asked when we were going to go there. I told him that maybe we could go the Sunday before the first day of school because we really don't go out often now and it would be a treat.

Dh has never taken off work the first day of school and I think that might make ds nervous! Any suggestions?

I make up a little gift bag for each of my kids on the first day of school, and they love that...I do it on the last day too (and for a bunch of holidays in between like St Patrick's Day, Halloween etc). It's small items, like stocking stuffers.

Other than that, we don't really have any traditions...I do take their pictures on their first morning of school. Sometimes Dh is here and sometimes he's not, dependings on what he's doing that week, the kids don't seem to care either way on that front.

I was just thinking, you know I do take them out for ice cream on their last day of school and usually out for dinner that night to a resturant of their choice. Why don't I do that on the FIRST day as well? LOL

I homeschool now.....but all the other kids in my family go to reg schools so I throw a big back to school party.

I make breadsticks, pizzas, and ice cream sundaes w/every topping a kid can dream up.

and I celebrate all the holidays with a HUGE bash for the kids,so we kick it off w/a party and then from their they are constantly looking forward to the next one.(they get extra prizes for good grades earned )

Right now I'm baking oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for DD as a snack for when she comes home. I just remember my Mom always had some sort of great snack or baked good ready for us every day when we got home from school. I'm hoping to carry on the tradition, starting today.

I am going to bake her a gaint cookie and put it on her bed. My mom would make or buy us little treats and put them on our beds to find when we got home.
