This is out first year homeschooling and my kiddos are feeling a little strange since their old public school started back 2 weeks ago. I have to admit, it feels a little strange to me also. They aren't unhappy, they love it so far, but I think we all feel a little awkward right now. I have no doubt that we are doing the right thing for our family! I guess I just need to know that we will feel comfortable soon! Anyone have a pep talk for me?

We are fairly new to homeschooling. We started in Feb. of this year and finished out the school year. This will be the first time I am starting a new grade and introducing my 4 year old ds as well.

No matter what, do what is best for your family. If you wake up one day and just can't do it, have them read for an hour. Don't be afraid to change what doesn't work for you. It's YOUR school. YOUR rules. As long as you are abiding by the laws of your state (like what subjects to teach and how many days), teach what and how you choose. The best advice I was given was not to try to teach like a traditional school. Homeschooling is fun!

Since it's a little weird right now, why don't ya'll throw a back to homeschool party? Have you looked up homeschool groups in your area? If not, check them out it's a great support system! (I need to take my own advice on that one, I can't find a group here)

There is not a group of homeschoolers near us. We are in a small town and to make things more complicated, we are moving soon. The area we are moving to has a wonderful group. I have talked to the lady that heads up the group and I am looking forward to getting involved with them. We are just in limbo right now! Thanks for your input!

I homeschooled until this year. Honestly, it takes about a year of diligence to really get into the groove of things. Just take it one day at a time, and make it your main priority for the time being. Not just the academics, but the whole "lifestyle."

It'll get less awkward as time passes, and you'll find that it just comes natural. It was quite rewarding for our family. That season has ended for us, and we're quite happy with where we are now. Best of luck to you on your journey!
