For all you moms of kids going to Kindergarten...I posted this last year, I thought I'd repost again this year...it's one of my favorite poems!! My kids are going into 7th and 9th grade and this poem still makes me cry!!!

A Touch Of Love

You were six months old and full of fun
With a blink of my eye, you were suddenly one.
There were so many things we were going to do,
But I turned my head and you were two.

At two you were very dependant on me,
But independance took over when you turned three.
Your third birthday, another year I tried to ignore,
But when I lit the candles, there weren't three, but four.

Four was the year that you really strived,
Why, look at you now, you're already five.
Now you are ready for books and for rules.
This is the year that you go to school.

The big day came, you were anxious to go.
We walked to the bus, going oh, so slow.
As you climbed aboard and waved goodbye,
I felt a lump in my thoart and tears stung my eyes.

Time goes so fast, it's hard to believe
that just yesterday you were home here with me.
And tommorrow when the bus brings you home
and you jump to the ground,
You'll be wearing your cap and graduation gown.

So I'm holding to these moments as hard as I can,
Because the next time I look, I'll be seeing a man.

Thank you SO MUCH!! I had a poem for DD when she started (She started school this morning....)
But I have nothing for DS and his first day (I was just going to change it to be about a boy in the one I have) ...I'm printing that out for his Kindergarten scrap page!

She started school this morning,
And she seemed so very small.
As I walked there beside her
In the Kindergarten hall.

And as she took her place beside
the others in the class,
I realized how all too soon
Those first few years can pass.

Remembering, I saw her as
She first learned how to walk.
The words that we alone made out
When she began to talk.

This little girl so much absorbed
In learning how to write.
It seems as though she must have grown
To girlhood overnight.

My eyes were blurred by hastily
I brushed the tears away
Lest by some word or sign of mine
I mar her first big day.

Oh how I longed to stay with her
And keep her by the hand
To lead her through the places
That she couldn't understand.

And something closely kin to fear
Was mingled with my pride.
I knew she would no longer be
A baby by my side.

But she must have her chance to live,
To work her problems out,
The privilege to grow and learn
What life is all about.

And I must share my little girl
With friends and work and play;
She's not a baby anymore --
She's in Kindergarten today.

Awww, they are both wonderful! My DD starts kindergarten Thursday. My older DD is in 3rd. And my baby is 9 mos. I'll have to print these out!

Geez you guys, like I'm not emotional enough about this!!!

My ds starts KG on 9/6, which just happens to be his 6th birthday, I'm totally gonna be a crying mess that morning, hopefully AFTER he gets on the bus!!
