How do you know what supplies your kids will need? Do you get a list?

My dd will be in 9th grade. School starts on Sept 4th. There is an open house for freshmen on the 29th. She will not even get her schedule until the open house. I am hoping we will get some kind of idea what she needs then. I just hate to have to run out and get everything at the last minute!!!

Have you checked the school website. Ours was posted on the school website, and many of the local stores had our schools list in the front of the stores.

My Ds is a Sophmore and we do not get his supply list until orientation (open house) which is tomorrow. When you go to open house, each of your child's teachers will have their own list of what they want.

I can tell you that the normal stuff is a binder about 3"...pens, highlighters, pencils, paper and folders

DS doesn't get his list until the first day of school. Be prepared for Freshman class dues (goes towards events like homecoming, dances, etc.) and individual class fees for things like Woods class, or Metals class, sometimes even Art class charges a fee. Ds took some shop classes this year and each one costs $15.00, his Sophmore class dues (which includes the price of his Yearbook) is $53.00 this year. Today i got a letter from the school district in the mail, the cost of hot lunch for the middle and high schools have increased from $1.80 per meal to $2.20 per meal a day.

My DD is in Junior high (8th) and we went through the same thing. No list, not even on the schools website. So we guessed. Got the traditional items and we figured anything extra she will need she will certainly be aware of by the time she gets home on the first day.

My dd (freshman) did not get a list. She just took a notebook and pencils the first day and wrote down in each class what was required. Then we went that night and bought it all.

At the high school that my son attends and a different high school that I work at...........both schools have the kids just come with something to write with and something to write on and then each teacher in each class tells that student what they will need for thier class. Both schools have the kids get their supplies asap, but do not expect them until after the first weekend.

We won't know what DS needs until after the first day of school. He will just take paper and pens on the first day.

If the teacher did not send out a list prior to school starting they are probably going to give it on the first day. Be prepared to go shopping!
