Right now, I have two kids selling "junk", one kid selling entertainment books, and one selling magazines. I am pulling my hair out. Our families live 10 hours away, and we are just not going to bring these to church, which is the only real place we socialize that people don't already have kids in the same schools as ours. I think it is ridiculous. For what we pay in fees, school supplies, etc, I would just rather them ask for me for $20 a child...straight to my child's classroom...and be done with it. I HATE FUNDRAISERS!!

Our find raisers are different to yours its mostly adult based. With Table Quizes, Golf Classics, Arts & Craft Fairs. etc

What the children get involved in and go door to door for is for a school chairty walk, they get sponsored for the charity of the schools choice to walk so many miles.

The tots do a sponsored silence to raise funds for charity.

Some schools do have a book sale for which the schools concerned get a certain amount of money back for the school library. The books usually are craft orientated and are good quality literature for the smaller ones

My DDs have magazine sales which we do not participate in. We do fill out the book of post cards so that the class gets the $2 or whatever it is. I then email everyone letting them know this is coming and that we do not expect them to order. The also bring home the candy bars but they are responsible to sell them in our immediate neighborhood. (My kids go to a different school then everyone else.) Only 1 box is allowed. Otherwise the PTO sells school sweatshirts & tshirts and we do a family fun night in the spring to raise money. It's a carnival, bingo, pizza and tacos in a bag. Otherwise we don't do fundraisers.

I have seen in the past candles from Home and Garden I think, for less than what they are in the catalog, 1 school sells frozen pizza, and the 2 high school football teams come around with a card with discounts to different businesses in town good for a year. I like the card becasue I can use it for a year and usually recoup my cost i savings.

Some of the fundraisers we don't even participate in. At my kid's school it isn't mandatory that we do. I don't care for the wrapping paper ones. I get my wrapping paper from Dollar Tree for much cheaper. The only ones we do are the pizzas, and Gold C books since this gets the best response from our families and neighbors. I do enjoy their school. It's an enriching curriculum and lots of extras that many schools don't have. But the school is just so darn dependent on fundraisers and financial support from parents.

It bothers me to see children "begging" for money. I hated going door-to-door when I was a teen. We use to have to sell wrapping paper and such for our cheer squad. Nowadays, many companies discourage door-to-door sales, relying on friends and family. This past weekend our daughter's competitive cheerleading program was literally begging at the doors of Wal-Mart! She's all of 5 years old, and we didn't let her do it. It concerns me that other parents allow their children to do it, and it makes me wonder about what it's teaching our kids. Car washes and bake sales are better alternatives than holding out a bucket to passers-by.

Luckily, we do not have hardly any fund raisers at our school. The middle schoold does one every 4 years and the elementary does not do them. I hate them since we live in a small town and everyone is selling and we have NO family around!

I was glad to see that when my ds started kindergarden last year that our school does not do fundraisers.
THey do ask for "donations" to the library or music program- you can give or not and give any amount you want. THey also raise $ at the school fair and book fair. I did not feel at all like there were asking for $- I felt fine donating when I wanted.
I hope this contiunes this way.

I usually buy the stuff myself and maybe my parents and a few close friends that I buy stuff from their kids. I hate fundraisers now and when I was in school. My senior year they gave us the option of paying $30 outright instead of participating in the fund raiser and my dad did it. It was one of the nicest things he ever did for me!!!

So, I hate them. I won't let dh take them to work because I hated it when people would do that when I worked. Especially since he is a supervisor! I would hate for anybody to feel forced into buying something.

I have also refused to participate in some of them. I am on WW, have issues with my weight and I cannot cannot cannot buy things like huge tubes of cookie dough and candy bars. It is too much temptation for me!!
