What do you have your child to use or do to prevent pimples?

My dd has started to get some very small bumps in a cluster on her forehead and I want to get it under control before it becomes a problem. Oh, her hair has also started being terribly greasy. Our hairdresser told her the other day to no longer use conditioner but like once a week and then only put it on the ends of her hair. She is now washing her hair every other day.

Anyone have any great ideas??

My dd (soon to be 12) is using Velocity from Mary Kay. It seems to work well on her face keeping all the pimples and zits at bay. So far we (she & I ) both really like it. I actually have my 17 year old DSS using it as he has terrible acne on his face.
As for her hair, I have no idea as my dd has very dry/coarse hair.

Hi there,
I am actually an esthetician(skin care specialist) at a salon, so I know a thing or two about skin.
As much as your daughter is NOT going to want to use a moisturizer, try to have her use one, very light, for oily skin. It will keep her skin balanced.
Also have her use a cleanser with exfoliating beads in it. It is crucial to exfoliate to keep rejuvinating the skin cells.
She can also use SPOT treatments for the clusters. Just dont use it on every piece of skin, or it will dry it out severly.
She can also Tone her skin after sweating, playing, sports, ect.......this will get the oil off her face a little better.

If she gets on something prescribed and she is getting her eyebrows waxed or lip waxed...make sure to tell the person waxing her. Lots of heavy duty skin care things will make the skin ALOT more sensitive and the waxing will lift skin, which is super painful and quite ugly as it heals. Just a FYI

As for the hair, I would use a normalizing shampoo(biolage or knock off's). It is a light shampoo and does not have a ton of moisturizing ingredients in it. Stay clear from heavy duty conditioners.

Hope this helps

Jenifer thanks for all of the info. Now I am going to ask for some explanations, if you do not mind. What type of moisturizer and cleanser would you recommend? What do you mean by SPOT treatments and what would you rec.? Please explain Tone, also. She does play sports and plays outside quite often.

Also, she just got her eyebrows waxed the other day, but she is not on any medicines. However, that waxed area is an area that broke out badly. She gets her eyebrows from my dh and I have never had much problems with acne so I am clueless. Thanks for taking time to help me out.

My 9yo used nuetrogena oil free acne wash on her forehead and nose in the shower. It works great. The dermotologist said to use cetaphil but it did nothing. He said girls are getting acne younger and younger these days.

I let my kids use an alphahydroxy lotion on their pimples. I happen to have Estee Lauder's blue bottle on hand. Vitamin World also has little bottles of roll on tea tree oil that works really well to treat pimples. And yes, your daughter's bangs touching her forehead is probably why she is getting pimples there.

Lastly, she can use witch hazel as a toner. Invert the bottle onto a cotton pad and rub the excess oil off. Witch hazel is the active ingredient in many pimple treatments. It is much more frugal to buy a generic bottle of it.

I'm glad to hear she is alteast willing to wash her face and try to clear things up. My ds is stubborn as heck and hates to wash his face and has alot of acne. My dd she doesn't like getting occasional pimples but also doesn't really like having to cleanse her face either. I hope she outgrows that soon.

Make sure she drinks plenty of water and is regulrr about bathroom habits. Our skin is our largest organ in our body and this is where toxins in our system tend to be deposited. Make sure she doesn't overdry her skin with too MUCH cleansing, but DO keep it free of bacteria. Tell her to try not to touch her face, especially without having washed her hands first.

As a long-time acne sufferer, I'll say this -- try everything suggested first and if her skin doesn't improve or gets worse, do not hesistate for a second to take her to a dermatologist. The longer she has breakouts, the worse her skin will get over time. Dermatologists can be pricey, but it will be worth it in the long run because she will feel a lot better about herself. Plus, the meds prescribed by the dermatologist usually end up costing about as much (or cheaper) than the OTC stuff.

Good luck with your dd. Skin problems can be miserable so I hope she can find some products that work well for her.
