We have 2 military balls every year. One in the Spring and one in the Fall. We were planning on attending the one last fall, but I was on bedrest. I was just wondering what everyone's opinion was about them in general. Dh has said in the past that it was a lot of politics, but I haven't the foggiest idea. We were supposed to go THIS fall, but Dh will be in Egypt so that's not happening. I love the idea of formal dresses, and military dress uniforms, but the more I hear about it the less interested I am in it. I know that a lot of it is just the fact that he doesn't like the idea of going, but I have also heard from others, some Marine and some Army, that it's really that way. I was just wanting to get an idea of others perspectives on the whole idea of going before I spend the money on a gown and tickets to go in the Spring.

I am so glad we don't have to do that! They are political - at least here. We do have a Christmas party which is very similar, but slightly less formal than a ball. No dress uniforms since civilians are invited as well. It is VERY political as well. I have heard the balls are MUCH worse. YUCK! Not my thing.

We're supposed to go to the one here on the 9th. I'm looking forward to it! I just want the pictures of DH and I all dressed up. I couldn't care less about the politics. Give me some good food a few drinks and I can sit through anything!

I am not military, but my dad was Air Force for 33 years. Him and my mom always loved going to them and had so much fun.

We don't care for the politics of the military, however, you can't help but play the game once you're there, rubbing shoulders with everyone.

Dh and I have only ever gone to two formals. I didn't care one way or another about it. It was nice to dress up and see him all dressed up.....but it was a heck of an expensive night to be reminded every four seconds how awesome the american military is!!! I mean, I agree, it is....but on a night out all dressed up, I would prefer to go somewhere else!!!!

I have never been to one of the balls. I have been to a few christmas parties and have always had a blast. I love getting dressed up for them. I am hoping to have just as much fun at the ball in october!!!
