Today is homecoming at my dd's high school. They had a pep rally, followed by the parade, followed by a bbq, followed by the football game, followed by the dance. It seems like a bit much to me. When I was in high school (dh said the same thing too), we had the football game and parade and stuff on Friday night, then the dance was on Saturday. This way the football players would be all clean and such. Homecoming dance was a huge deal and was formal and had pictures and stuff. It was the biggest thing next to prom!! My dd and her friends are wearing jeans and their homecoming t-shirts and she thought I was nuts for suggesting she dress up I know I went to high school back in the dark ages, but what did the rest of you all do for homecoming?

My Homecoming day went tlike this: pep rally during the last class at school,no parade,no bbq,the game and the dance. It was not formal or even semi-formal.Jeans was the thing! This was 12 years ago(my senior year).

I don't really recall...I went to an all girls school though! LOL! We did have a 'brother' school and I'm sure there was homecoming. I did go to homecoming dances, but I never bothered with the football (no interest on my part).

Homecomming for us was a pep rally for the later half of the day we also did events fun things diffrent each year some times there was a picnic, the game a very large bon fire before during and after the game (it was a very large stack of palets) and the dance it was not formal just a dance. The fotball players showered in the locker room after the game.

I guess we're just old, Happymom, because it was a big deal for us, too - formal...I mean, the Homecoming King and Queen were royalty, and we all dressed for the occasion on Saturday! Seems not as special if it's all in one day and they don't dress up.

I'm trying to think... I know we had the peprally during last period at school on Friday. I *think* the parade was on Sat, right before the game. We would have 'themes' and we would decorate our corner of the gym with our theme for the pep rally. Our senior year it was midevil times and if I do say so myself, it was COOL. But we were mad that the Softmores won that we pulled down all our stuff and had a bonfire with it that night. LOL

So that year we rode around on our EMPTY float for the parade. Lol. the game is usally at 2pm, and while they announce the homecoming court, the floats go around the track. Our empty float did. LOL

We had the dance after, and it was semi fomal. Not formal, and no jeans. It was always a bit lame though, it was in the cafeterial.

When I was inHS our Homecoming was like yours too, Happymom!! It was pep rally, small parade, the crowning of the king & queen, then the game all on friday, than on Saturday night it was the big Formal dance, we all went out to eat at a nice restaurant all dressed up,then after the dance we changed into our jeans and went to a haunted house(it was always in Oct. here)

I'm not sure what they do now, but that was what they did back in the 80's(I graduated in '86)

It was a big deal when I was in school and still is today. We would have a Bon Fire mid week, a pep rally on Friday afternoon, game saturday afternoon(we didn't have lights back then) and dance on Saturday evening and yes it was semi-formal. Since I havebeen in school they still do the bon fire mid week, I am sure a pep rally in the afternoon, game on Friday night, Dance on Saturday night and yes it is still semi formal. We do not have a parade or a bbq but we have the rest. Our H.S. is set between two small towns where all the students from both of these towns go to school so there is no place to have a parade.
