Our high school last wknd used a Breathalyzer on all kids entering the football game. It's a huge HS (4000+ kids) and not one of them failed!! It was on the local news tonight and people were discussing whether they thought the school system should do this or not. I personally don't have a problem with it as I'm sure my kids aren't drinking and I don't like to think that other kids at the game are drinking. Most people thought it was okay and some other schools said they might start doing it, but there were some people complaining about it. What do you think??? Okay??? Violation of something or another???

No our schools do not do this. i think it might be a good idea for school dances especially Prom since you always see some sort of horrible accident involving alcohol.

Our school hasn't done that yet, but a law was passed to start testing all students who participate in athlectics to be tested for steriod use.

Our school does not do this- I know of a school (much larger town) that does it and I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand I think it's a great idea- and that more schools should do it. ON THE OTHER HAND, if they have already been drinking, then what's next? Do they tell these kids to leave? If they leave, aren't they just going to go get into more trouble? If the school calls the cops/parents/whom ever then these kids are just being taught to party all night long INSTEAD of attending school events. And it doesn't make much sense to do it at EVERY event, maybe it should be "random" testing? If the students KNOW that they're going to be tested, why would they BOTHER SHOWING UP AT ALL? OF COURSE all of the kids are going to pass (IF they know there is going to be testing there) why would the ones who have been drinking even BOTHER TO SHOW UP...all though the "idea" of it is good, the WAY it is done in some schools needs to change!!!!

I have never heard of doing this, but I have no problem with it. But wouldn't it take a loooong time to complete in big schools.

I asked my kids that and they both said it went really quickly. They did it randomly at one game last year, but they did ALL the kids this past wknd.
