I know that 4th grade up are required to do a project, my son did one last yr and will probably do one this yr. (Just for the heck of it) I found this great book at the Scholastic Book Fair last week that had all sorts of science projects from the ones if you have 2 weeks, to 2 days to 24 hrs. It will be very handy.

Why sort of science projects has your child done??

My ds has not had to do any projects like that at all. He is in 5th grade this year. I was just thinking about this a couple weeks ago and was thinking how weird it is. I can remember starting projects like that in 3rd grade. Every kid had to do one.

I think in the school we go to, you can do one if you want in 4th or 5th but it isn't madatory.

My dd is in 3rd grade and hasn't had to do a science project yet. I'm not sure when that starts up. I haven't even heard about a science fair in our county.

My older son is in 7th grade this year but he's only had to do a science project one year...when he was in 4th grade. We were living in Switzerland at the time and the kids were going to an English speaking school...but the whole "Science Fair" was just, um....very unorganized and it ended up being a very frustrating experience. I'm drawing a blank right now as to what project he ended up doing! LOL!

There are TONS of sites online though for all different kinds of projects...it's a great resource or to try to find ideas.
