Our school doesn't do fundraisers like candy bars or wrapping paper, they do market day.. Has anyone heard of it? Do you like it?

Our school got rid of it a couple of years ago. I have heard of course that some items are overpriced but some of the food was good! From my understanding according to the PTA president it wasn't worth the hassle for the money they made.

Our elementary did it. The food is somewhat overpriced, but the quality is good and the stuff is all really easy to make. So I'd usually buy about 5 things each month and then I'd have a few quick things on hand for when I needed them. The desserts are really good for holiday time.

I love Market Day. Our school doesn't hold a sale in July and I always have to stock up in June because there are some things I hate to be without. Some of the foods are overpriced, but some are actually pretty close to what I would pay in the grocery store. I don't belong to a warehouse store so I can't compare there.

Their chicken breasts are great - I am one of those people who gets grossed out by some of the stuff on chicken and end up trimming it a lot, but the Market Day breasts I just open and use with no trimming, so I am actually saving there. If I would normally use four regular breasts for a recipe I can get away with three Market Day breasts. DH also loves their ground beef. If I buy beef on sale at the store he notices the difference right away.

And as someone else has already said, their desserts are really good. I like to keep some in the freezer for times I have to bring food somwhere and I don't feel like cooking.

As far as the things that are overpriced, it is still a fundraiser and I would rather pay a little more for my food than to pay $8 for a roll of gift wrap. Our school made over $7000 last year from Market Day.

My school has done it the last two years. You are right, most everything is overpriced, but it is good food.

I started purchasing it at first, but the pick up time conflicted with my work hours and the PTG president lady would get irate when I was 10 minutes late. So I stopped buying it.. I didn't want the hassle of driving like a speed racer just to get nasty glares and smark remarks from some lady who acts like she is better than everyone else.

I'm off my rant now..

We have a Market Day too. This is our first year in school. So I am interested in what peoples favorites are. I have not seen anything for the same price or less than what I can get it for in the store. So I am having a real hard time finding something to buy to support the school.

Try the chocolate chip pudding cakes. They are so good. I wish our school had it but our new PTA president didn't like and wants us to sell dollar store stuff with a 70% markup.

We have Market Day at our school. I love it!! Some things are over priced, but I'm willing to pay a little extra for the convenience, and I enjoy knowing I'm supporting the school.

Our favorites include:

chicken steaks
seasoned salmon steaks
pies & cheesecakes
choc. choc. chop pudding cakes (I buy 3 of these every month-Brian takes at least one in his lunch daily)
mozzarella sticks w/ sauce (tastes like the ones you get at Applebees)
microwave pancakes

I don't buy all this every month, but I love how their chicken steaks (breasts) are individually wrapped!! If I think of anything else, I'll be sure to post it!
