do your elementary age kids have t.v.'s in there bedrooms? my and my dh disagree on this one. i want to get the 2 dss (his 2 boys) a tv for there room as a shared xmas gift (they share a bedroom) and the 2 girls who share a room -my dd 7 and his dd 8 also a tv to share for xmas. now we also will get each of them there own gifts , but that's not the issue. i think tv in kids room is no big deal. my dh thinks they r too young. he said we can still get them but i was wondering is this an issue in anyone's home?

All of my kids have a tv in their room. It would be more of an issue if they did not have one b/c it seems everyone in this house likes to watch completly different shows.

No...my kids don't have tv's in their bedrooms. We are not a big tv watching family, there just isn't much interest. They do have computers though! LOL! There are rules in place, and both the kids know, if they're violated, the computers are gone.

Only my 14 yr old has a tv. My oldest dd got one when she was 16. My 14 yr old wanted one so she got a paper route and bought one last year. My boys do not have one and probably will not get one for quite awhile. I have mellowed a bit on this in my old age, though! I used to be NO, NEVER!! Now I am more of a "we will see what happens" type of person.

I grew up with ALL the gadgets in my room (my mom was divorced and this was her way of showing me I was loved). Dh - had a clock radio, and that's it.
In our house now, we both agree there will be no TV, computer, or large stereo in the girls room. This was mainly my DH's wants and I just didn't feel strongly enough to disagree. We will have a separate "clubhouse" room where they can use those things, so ultimately I, too, see no need in their room.
If it were just me (and DH had no opinion) I don't see an issue with it, unless it becomes an issue in general (not sleeping - watching TV instead, family time diminishes because they are in their room more, watching inappropriate things, etc...)

I won't let my kids have a tv in their room. My boys are little though, 8 & 6. They would never get to sleep with it in there and I like to monitor what they are watching. They won't be having one for a long time.

I don't allow TVs in their rooms either. For one, when they're supposed to be in bed sleeping I don't want them up watching TV. For another, if the TV is there, I can't monitor what they're watching. And for last, I think if they want to watch TV they can spend time with their family to do it. Now that's not to say we don't have a lot of TVs. We have one in our family room, one in the masterbedroom, one in the basement, and two hooked up to game systems. So if people don't want to watch the same thing, they don't have to. But I draw the line at TVs in kids rooms. JMO

Same here. Kids have a tendancy to withdraw from parents soon enough, let alone if they have a tv in their rooms. I'd never see mine if they could watch tv in their rooms. I also want to monitor everything that I can, so there is no way that they will be having tv's in their rooms.
