What to do with SOO MANY CRAYONS !!!

I was just wondering what do you guys do with so many crayons and every school year they get a new box and you still have the other box from the previous year.

What do you guys do with used crayons?

i throw them away

when shes done with the end of the year and brings home the supplies she used i throw them all away . except last year she wanted to keep a couple colors that she didnt have so i let her .

You can take them and put pieces of them in a muffin tin and melt on low temp in your oven. It wil make a thin, round crayon a very small toddler can use to mark on paper or coloring book. I made some for my granddaughter when she was small.

We toss any broken ones. We tried melting them in the muffin pans, the Crayola brand worked best.

We have a huge palstic bucket full, for now we'll keep 'em, they do use them up eventually.

I am always tossing out the ones that are broken- so are supply never gets too big

I am very involved in our Early childhood family education. a bunch of us advisory parents got together and made the crayons with broken ones and gave them to teachers to use with the little ones. they loved it. I have since then done it as gifts with paper and coloring books for little ones, usually 3 and under age.

Tossing the crayons at the end of the school year? What if they wanna color thru the summer. I don't toss them out until they are very tiny for them to hold and color. My kids are 3 and 4 3/4, and they've been using the same crayons for the last 3 years. I havn't had to buy a new box yet, and plus, they're always adding a few crayons here and there from b-day goody bags, and restaurants and such. They have a pencil box each full of crayons, and I'm thinking this will last them atleast another couple of years. I know crayons are dirt cheap at the start of the school year, but then I guess I'm cheap to, if they're perfectly fine, why throw them out.

We also have a ton of crayons. I keep them in baggies in the car at all times and also a baggie in my purse. They are so handy to have around.

I saw in Family Fun Magazine (I think) about using soup cans (big soup cans like Progresso size cans) with the labels removed to sort and store crayons by color family. So we have six cans, in a tray with sides, so the cans don't tip or move around and we can store a TON of crayons. I was keeping them in gallon size ziplocs but they would end up pouring out all over the floor etc

Last Christmas, I melted down some crayons and we made a few different shapes for my neices for their stockings. My kids have fun doing it and they were a big hit.

i throw away the ones she had in school - she has a huge tub of them here for her to color - plus shes 9 and doesnt color as much as she used to shes now more into drawing .

Make pretty mobiles that look like stained glass. Crumble the crayons, place between 2 pices of wax paper cut into shapes like stars, circles, half moons, etc. and then iron on low for a few seconds to melt crayons. It will look like faux stained glass. Use a good quality heavy paper or foam plate in a pretty color and puch holes around the sides with a small knife or needle. Punch small holes through tops of "stained glass shapes" and using floss or string of varying lengths, thread through the holes on ouside of the plate. next poke 2 holes in center of plate, pull floss or string through and you have a beautiful mobile that will look so pretty hung in front of a window or from a tree.
