We have two computers and a laptop; none of them are in dd's room. She's only 8 years old, so I don't think it's necessary for her to have her very own computer. At her age, I like for her to be out of her room where I can see what she's doing on the computer.

Perhaps when she's older (near college-age) we may consider getting her a laptop.

My kids are 7 and 13 and they share a computer but it is not in a bedroom. It is in the "dining room" so we can easily see what is going on. Mostly because the 13 yr old cant really be trusted.

My 8 year old has one in his room. He shares it with his 6 year old brother. We put a bunch of games on it and also put a bunch of his favorite websites on his favorites. He does watch youtube (tornadoes and weather stuff) I don't worry about him getting into trouble on there.. he wouldn't even think of that yet. Although when he gets to that age (his computer will be too slow by then) but anyways when he does I will probably move it out of his room so I can see what's going on.

Our three boys share a room and have a computer in it. They have had one since the oldest was about six. It has worked very well for us as we homeschool and find that it's nice for them to be able to do schoolwork on their own. It is loaded with games (they have limited video game time each day) and, DH is a computer geek, so he has set up limited internet access to keep them off unwanted sites. It has worked vey well for our family, but I can see where it wouldn't for many others. I believe it all depends on your situation.

We have two computers. Both are in our family room. My boys both use them (they are 13 and 5). They will not be allowed computers with internet access in their rooms. The computers will always remain in a main area of the house where I can see what they are up to at all times.

Yes, both my kids have computers in their rooms. They are 9 and 12. They're very responsible, know what the rules are and Dh and I keep a very close eye on it (they know we check the history and have other types of parental controls on the computers in our house). If there is a hint of any type of problem, they'd be removed in a heartbeat.

My kids will never have computers in their rooms. We have ours in the family room, and they are allowed to play on Disney or our games that I have for them...all educational. When they are finally allowed to use the internet for other things, I will put on the parental controls and any other safeguards that they have by then. I just think that no matter how much I trust my children, they are still kids who will be curious or could be misled. I will protect them as long as I can from as much as I can.
