My dd can't. Of course, she's the type of child that doesn't willingly take any kind of medication. Good luck trying to get her to swallow a pill.

Nope DD is 8 and we've only tried it once or twice, she gagged both times. We're working on it, but scripts I get filled for liquids if at all possible. Ds we haven't had the opportunity to try it yet (he will be 6 in 2 weeks).

I can't say too much though, I am 33 and have a hard time swallowing pills especially if someone is watching me.

Mine can...they've been pretty good about it. My kids could never take liquid medications, it always made them gag/throw up. We used chewables as soon as we could and then graduated to swallowing pills.

Me too. I can only swallow pills the size of a Claratin. Bigger pills I have to cut up or chew up (yuck).

I've been told it's all in my head. It's not!!!

These posts are making me feel better about my inability to swallow pills.

With DS, it's not just psychological. His Sensory Disorder makes him physically gag. He's always been like that. We're using ice cream right now with mixed results. Some days it works, others not. It seems to numb the back of the tongue and throat enough to stop it from constricting so much. Pudding doesn't work for us. He just has to take it quickly and not sip/swallow. I honestly think some people have not so much a disorder, but more a sensitivity to things like that, making it physical. My guy really does try. It's not like he's fighting us.

It was suggested that a pharmacist may have some tricks to suggest. The cup idea that has a little compartment in it won't work for my son. I was going to ask the pharm. about it today, but lost my voice completely. I can't even croak.

My oldest is almost 16, he was able to swallow pills around 10.
My oldest DD is 12, she just recently started to be able to swallow pills, she recently needed an antibiotic, Dr. told her she would need almost 3 tablespoons of liquid or swallow one small pill. She chose the pill, it was a struggle but she did and has since taken a Tylenol with no problems.

I used to hate to swallow pills. I would take a spoonful of apple sauce or pudding and hide the pill so I couldnt taste it or choke on it. HTH

12, 10, and 6yr olds can swallow pills. I myself have a hard time swallowing pills. My doctor told me to teach them by swallowing Cheerios. That didn't work too well. I found it easier to have them take a drink of water, but don't swallow it. Then carefully slip the pill in and swallow. It worked every time for them. Unfortunately I still have a hard time.
