My dh went to work yesterday feeling lousy with a fever. He decided to do the bare minimum then come home early to rest. He told his boss he wanted to come home early because he was sick. His boss asked, "How high is your fever?" Dh replied, "Between 101-102." Dh's boss said, "Heck, I've got you beat. My fever is 104." Dh's boss wasn't thrilled with my dh leaving early but he let him go. Dh's boss stayed at work with his high fever.
So my question is this: Is it better to soldier on at work when you're sick or come home and rest?

I HATED it when people worked with contagious illnesses. I think it is incredibly selfish.
However, I'm usually the lucky soul that would be the next one sick, hence my pet peeve. Not only are you sharing your disease with your coworkers, they get to take it home and share it with their children and families.
I know people say they absolutely cannot leave their jobs, but I've yet to know a job that couldn't exist without one certain person for a few days. Heck, even say an accomplished surgeon - I wouldn't want someone with the flu operating on me. Get someone else or reschedule me.
I may be a bit rabid about this, but when I worked, 9 times out of 10, I had to leave work sick because I caught whatever crud someone else had that chose to come to work sick and stay there. That's a type of sharing that just isn't caring!

I think it's stupid and selfish to expose others to whatever illness people come to work sick with. Unless you work in a plastic bubble all by your lonesome I say stay home.

I am a nurse and take care of a medically fragile child in her home. She has a Gtube and a trach and is very vulnerable to contagious illnesses. You would think her family would not want sick nurses showing up but if it means they will have to take care of her themselves they rather have a sick nurse..... so I have gone to work the past three days with a horrible chest and head cold, coughing, sneezing, and blowing my nose. I have to wear a face mask, glove up more than usual and went through an entire bottle of Purex hand sanitizer each day. SO far she is not sick but I am sure she will be.

I wouldn't even call it courageous or stupid, but inconsiderate. Come home and rest and keep everybody else as well as possible by NOT spreading germs around. JMO
Hope he feels better soon.

In some cases, it's a no-win situation. You know when people are home sick the other employees talk about it. "Yeah, right. He's not sick." And then when you go the same ones are mad that you are spreading germs.
As for me...I was always looking for excuses to stay home. Sick or not.

I think it's great that you've tried to take precautions to prevent the little girl from getting sick. However, I'm shocked that the parents would have no problem with their child being cared for by a sick nurse! Is this a situation where neither of them can take time off from work to care for their child? Just curious.

I work with people who are medically fragile also. No way would I go to work sick. I feel bad calling in, but I do it anyway (did it 3 days this week ) It is very inconsiderate!
