I had to take my 16 yr old ds to the er for stitches yesterday. While we were waiting, we decided to count off all the times he has been to the ER in his life. We counted at least 7, including yesterday. My daughters have all been to the ER at least once, but I don't think any of the girls have been there more than twice. They are younger than him, but I still doubt they will ever catch up, which is a good thing.
The things that have brought him to the ER? First stitches in his chin. He has bit into his tongue a couple of times, I think only one time did he have to go to the ER for that. Incidentally, they really can't do anything for a tongue cut. Twice for bumping his head. Once for stitches in his thumb. Once for a broken finger, and yesterday he was wrestling with friends at Pizza hut and hit his fist on the corner of a brick wall.
He just cracked a rib a couple weeks ago, but I just took him to his pediatritian for that.

I haven't had to take my oldest yet, but my 2 year old went to the ER twice in one week this winter, once for a dislocated elbow and once for stitches in the head. Three weeks later he had surgery for a hernia. The medical bills that keep rolling in are just unnerving! And we have decent insurance. I can't imagine how people with no insurance deal with it. We have gotten bills from the doctors, the hospitals, the anesthesiologist, and on and on and on. We were laughing the other day that our whole economic stimulus check should just about cover the medical expenses that insurance didn't from our winter with John!

I hope he doesn't continue down the path that your 16 year old is on! Oh, and good to know about the tongue. Maybe that will save me a trip one day!

Thankfully my dd's only had to go to the ER once when she broke her left arm on April Fool's Day (I'll never forget that day) when she was 7. I'm praying that's the only time I'll ever have to take her.

dd has been to the ER 2 times. once she was in a car accident ( my sister was driving and a teenager tboned them) and once for severe dehydration. she ended up being in the hospital for 4 days.

ds has been 5 times. 3 times for sticking things into holes in his body (rock in the nose, steak in the nose, dried bean in the ear). 1 time for a broken arm, and 1 time for an anxiety attack. hopefully no more ER visits for us.

My oldest has been there 2 times (once for a concussion, and once for a gash she got on her eye). She is pretty good about the ribbing we give her ~ we tease that she has to see every ER in every town we live in.

Oldest ds has been to the er once. Younger ds has mot been to the er at all. We go to a 24 hr. place instead since the wait isn't long.

ds1-never. Thank goodness. He doesnt deal well with pain. DS2-two er trips (one a few days after xmas-busted his head open on a piano bench-7 stitches. Than one year later on Xmas day, again busted his head open this time on a chair-they just super glued his head shut.). One time he busted his knee open really bad at school but I just took him to the regular clinic that we always go to. He got three stitches than. We have also made two special trips to the dentist because he has fallen hit his mouth. Both the top and bottom front teeth he has knocked a little loose. Ds3-No er trips. But he did get admitted to the hospital once over night because of a horrible stomach flu and he was so dehydrated.

My youngest hasn't been yet. My oldest has been to the ER once for respiratory distress (wasn't a fun trip because she went by ambulance from the dr's office). She has also been to the ER when she was a toddler and F.O.S., and last summer for stitches in her knee.

Oh, YES!! And all 4 times BEFORE he even turned 4 years old!!!
#1) 8 months old--Kidney Infection / UTI
#2) 14 months old--stitches to ring finger
#3) 2 1/2 years old--stitches to lip
#4) 3 years old--5 stitches to back of head, which has left a permanent "bald-spot" scar, from a nasty little BRAT that pushed him out of a chair onto the hard tile floor at pre-school!!!
