ladies, you might want to remember you can't protect your children forever. If they go to college there could be shootings there as well (Virginia). So, if your reason for homeschooling is safety, although admirable, anything can happen anywhere. Growing up I wasn't allowed to do much, because my dad worried about everything. I do worry about my son getting hurt sometimes but I should have faith that God will look after him and not try to restrict him from everything to try to control what "maybe could" happen. Remember things can happen outside of school as well. Your child could go on a bike ride and be abducted or run over by a car. We can never keep our kids 100% safe, although that would be a perfect world. What needs to be done is to discuss safety issues with them and talk about different situations they could be in and what they should do to ensure their health and safety. O.K. off myn my soapbox:

Yes I am well aware of that. That is the least of the reasons my children are homeschooled. The oldest 2 graduated from public school and the third oldest went til 7th grade. My fourth til 3rd grade. My youngest is in first grade and never went to public school. I worked in the public school system for 12 years and that is a major reason why I homeschool. They are learning so much more in much less time. I get to be with them and raise them. Yes they are my children, my responsibilty. And it is their choice to homeschool.

I wasn't trying to offend anyone. I just saw a lot of moms who put down that a good reason to homeschool is so you don't have to worry about school shootings. My son goes to public school and I know there are many positive/good reasons to homeschool children. I think that it is hard work for a mom to do, but I am sure it is worth it Believe me, I went to public school and have seen its many downfalls, not to say it doesn't have any positive sides as well. You have to do what's right for you and your family. I have a friend at church that homeschools her kids. It wouldn't work for my son because he likes to be around other kids a lot and is a talker So, for moms who do it I applaud you. Yes, I tend to worry too much sometime so I don't like to think about the possibility ( though a low possibility in our school district) of a school shooting.

One of the great things my kids do is they belong to a homeschool group. We go on field trips, have drama class, do park days, and they take art class and are doing classes at Young Chefs acadamey. So they get to do their school work without all the distractions and still get to be around their friends for the fun stuff. This is the first year they are doing a Physical Challenge and they will have several field days. It is true homeschool is not for everyone. But it definitely is for our youngest kids. We love it. My middle son just finished his college courses two years earlier than most kids his age. He gets a head start on the job search.
No offense taken. But a lot of people have very negative things to say about homeschoolers based on misconceptions. I used to be one of them. I was happy to be proven wrong.
