So what song did everyone dance to for their first wedding dance? Did anyone do something silly or crazy? My best friend is getting married, and she wants our entire wedding party to do a choreographed group dance, like they do on TLC's show "Rock the Reception," and totally surprise all the guests!

I think it would be hilarious, but it seems like a lot of preparation. Has anyone seen the show? How long do they spend choreographing and practicing? I love the idea, but I'm a busy lady!

same! It was a great song to dance to, just the right length and appropriate because we had been dating for 5 years

"In My Life" by the Beatles.

At my best friends' wedding, a bunch of us did the "Time Warp" dance from Rocky Horror Picture Show, and a large number of us were in a medieval recreationist group (the SCA), so we did the dance we usually do at many events to the song "Scotland the Brave" (the thing you are most likely to ever hear on bagpipes). That was cool as about 30 of us at the wedding knew the steps and could do it together.

We had no dancing at our wedding reception...Dh and I both agreed it wasn't something we wanted.

We didn't do a whole sit down dinner either. We had an afternoon wedding with a reception immediately following with cocktails and heavy hors d'ouvres . We had a harpist, some strings and a pianist in various areas around our reception site. It was really elegant and beautiful.

We didn't have an actual "announced/planned" first dance. But we danced to Eric Clapton's Wonderful Tonight and Elvis Presley's I Can't Help Falling in Love with You.

We danced to God Bless the Broken Road by Rascal Flatts. DH and I couldn't play "our song" as it was a wee bit inappropriate for a wedding dance (Lover Lay Down The Dave Matthews Band) and we kept going back and forth over a bunch of songs until we heard the Rascal Flatts song on the radio.

After one of our first few dates he heard that I sang and wanted to hear me sing. I said (jokingly of course) "Yeah, uh, if we get married I'll sing at our reception!" (I did plays and sang in a band, etc) Well at my reception I paid up and sang him a song. 6 months later a friend of mine did an insane first dance and it rocked!! They were dancing all slow to some song and then all of a sudden it sounds like a record skips and he rips off the skirt of her dress to reveal a short dress and they dance like crazy. It was awesome. I think it is neat to mix it up. The running joke became that in order to top Drew and I, my sister (who was getting married soon after-my poor dad) would have to jump through a flaming hoop while juggling!

Well we had no reception and hence no dancing. I don't really like big weddings.

OH MY GOSH! That is one of the coolest things I've ever heard! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Rocky Horror Picture Show and that song is amazing! Do you have a video of it?? You should post it on YouTube or somewhere and then post the link on here! That would be amazing to see!

I always love watching Rock the Reception because they look so amazing! I hope if my friend decides to go through with it that they hire choreographers because I want us to look good. Here's a good example of a group dance on RTR: YouTube - Rock the Reception - TLC

Pretty awesome huh? I love it!
