My Financial Success Story begins the day I had my child, nearly one year ago. I realized from that day, I needed to figure out a way to get our finances in order. Wishing I had realized this a few years sooner, I was motivated to put together a plan of action. I've always wanted to be a stay at home mom, but I figured I was going to have to be one of those working mothers, trying to do it all. I spent everyday of maternity leave trying to figure out a way to stay at home with my daughter. I wasn't able to find a way in that short about of time, so reluctantly, I went back to work after eight weeks of maternity leave.
Soon after I went back to work, I started playing with numbers, figuring out our debt, making a budget, making cuts, and saving money. I began searching for information on the web about decreasing debt and saving. I also did searches on how to become a stay at home mom, which led me to the Mommysavers.com website. Educating yourself is the best way to reach a goal. Obtaining advice from others in the situation you want to be in is a great way to figure things out.
I now have a plan of action that includes using our tax refund to pay off two of our credit cards and personal loans to our parents by the end of this April. Before, we probably would have just blown our tax refund. We will be using a snowball effect. After these are paid off, we will use what we were paying for those debts and apply them next to our last credit card and medical bills. Our goal is to have those paid off by this November. So on and so forth. We will then have our car loans and student loans to pay off after that.
In this financial quest I am on, I have learned many things. I have learned not to live on credit, for that is what got me in this situation in the first place. I have learned to live within my means. Just because my friends have one thing or do another, this doesn't mean that I need to do the same. I have learned that having more, doesn't make you happy. I've learned that being frugal and having a budget is kind of fun. That may sound strange to some, but I like challenges and trying to find different ways to do things in a cheaper way.
If everything works as planned, I will be a stay at home mom within a year. I can't wait! I see our making our finances better, as a way to make my career dream come true.
