I just have to raise my eyebrow when I see people asking how to "organize clutter". You don't. Clutter is something you get rid of in order to organize what's important in your life. So, decluttering is top priority. It can be difficult at first, but it becomes so freeing after you start to realize that most of the things you get rid of, you don't miss. And in their space is, well, space, and things you love. And it's an ongoing process. As time goes by and life changes, other things become clutter and you need to make room for the new things that come your way.
Giving everything a place is also important. My son told me the other day that he couldn't put his toys away b/c he didn't know where they were supposed to go. I find the same thing for myself. Things that have a designated home get put away with no problem. Things that haven't been given a home yet seem to get pushed around to different places. So find a home for EVERYTHING and they're more likely to get put away and keep order of your newly decluttered space.
Do a little bit at a time. As you mentioned, Kim, 10-15 minutes at a time doesn't seem like much, but you'd be amazed at what can be accomplished in that amount of time. Add that up over a few days and you will have done some major decluttering and organizing. Any progress is good progress.
Those are a few of my thoughts on getting organized. Hope they help!
