OK...spending freeze.

Does that mean no visiting family and friends because of the use of excess gas? ( I am hoping )

No really...is the point cut out everything that you need to literally survive?

Really, each person has to define "spending freeze" for themselves. I will let you know I have a few things on my "approved spending" list that some of you would not consider a necessity. One is a birthday gift for my dad, who is turning 65 on Jan. 13th. the other is contact lenses (yes, I suppose I could just wear my glasses).

The main thing here is to cut out impulse purchases, use up what you have, stay out of the stores as much as possible. How you define the rest will be up to you. However, I do think the stricter you can be with yourself the more you'll get out of this project. Like most things in life, you get out of it what you put into it.

Hope this helps explain the Spending Freeze step - I can't help you with your relatives, however!

Thanks for the response! If only this project would solve my MIL problems!

Are you going to have everyone that participates report back in at different times to share their experiences?

Ok, that clears up a bit. I was sitting at breakfast wondering if I needed to forgo MOPS this month in order to save $5, but it is up to my definition.

Glad to hear about the birthday presents, too! My Dad's birthday is the 11th! lol

And, I wanted to go out to eat on MY birthday, too!!!

Yes, during this I'll be asking you to report in - talk about your temptations and victories. A blog is a good way to track this, too. If you don't yet have a Mommysavers Blog, consider starting one for the FTJ Project!

Is It wrong to think it is imp to eat out once in a while like on DD birthday!! or mine!!
she gets her choice of food maybe 1 time a year and why is it wrong to give her a special day for her birthday

does that make sense!! or do you thikn I am rationalizing this!!

she only turns 6 once!!

Yes thanks for the Clarification, It would be hard for me to cut all the little spending that is planned. I know I can cut back to less excpenicive choices and still be satisfied. For example ordering a Tea instead of a non-fat Grande Irish Cream Latte and a bagle with cream cheese when I go for my weekly coffee with the girls. I am still getting what I am after which is a chance to socialize.

I to had a birthday in this time period but we don't have to go out to a spend restraunt I could save a lot and still celebrate by cooking him a steak dinner at home for a quarter of the price.

I organize a local moms group so am hosting events meaning that I need to find alternatives to just not attending them

Ok I'm ready for this assignment. I would like to see the out come. I love the thrift store and it's walking distance from my house. Walmart is 3 min from my house, Kmart 5 min, Target 10 min. Am I disciplined enought? I can do it!!!

I don't think your rationalizing this. If, like you say, it's only once a year that you do this then I would think it's fine. Howevery, think and plan in advance. Know where you guys are going so you know how expensive (or cheap ) it's going to be. Save for this specific event prior to it comeing and i think all should go well. Thats my opinion.
