For those of you reading this book..
If you haven't got to the part where she goes skiing with her two girlfriends, and don't want any spoilers, don't read.

So, in that part, she is skiing with her two girlfriends and slowly, she is left a bit behind, watching her friends skiing off in front of her, chatting, having fun, and she is behind them feeling a bit inadequate. She keeps saying "if I had..then.." statements. If she had new bindings, THEN she'd be better. Once she gets new skis, THEN she'll be better.. etc. All the while noting that her friend with the tight butt (lol) is using 20-year old skis that are probably no better than her own.
It got me thinking about how I do this. If I had this, THEN.. If I had THAT, then..
I do it with cleaners. When I want to feel motivated about getting my house in order, what to do I do? Do I get my house in order? No. I shop. I go to WalMart and find the cleaning aisle. I stand there for a 1/2 hour looking at all the different cleaners. Reading the ingredients, opening them to smell them, comparing prices. I leave with a bag or two full of all the latest cleaners guaranteed to make my house smell fresh, look clean and be more inviting and relaxing to all who enter. Then I go home.
Do I clean? No. I'm still not motivated to actually DO it. But I now have a whole closet full of new supplies for when I DO feel motivated. See, I didn't actually WANT the new cleaners. What I WANTED was to feel motivated to clean. My mistaken belief was that if I had the "necessary tools" I would feel motivated. But it doesn't work that way.
What do YOU do that is similar?
